Gymnastics Instructor/Team Coach

JOB REQUIREMENTS: FREE MEMBERSHIP WITH EMPLOYMENT! Our gymnastics
program includes classes ranging from Parent/Tot through High School
Competitive Team. We are currently seeking adults to coach our
gymnastics team. Whether the reason for the gymnasts participation is
recreation, exercise or competitive sport, your most important role as
an Instructor or Coach is youth development. Building gymnastic skills
is your means to that end. You would be responsible for conducting
gymnastics classes for youth in accordance with the National YMCA
Progressive Gymnastics Program, using the philosophy of positive
feedback and mental attitude. Relationship building with gymnasts and
their parents, and ensuring a safe and positive environment are critical
to our program and your success as an Instructor/Coach. Provide training
direction, encouragement, motivation, and nutritional advice to prepare
athletes for games, competitive events, or tours. Adjust coaching
techniques, based on the strengths and weaknesses of athletes. Instruct
individuals or groups in sports rules, game strategies, and performance
principles, such as specific ways of moving the body, hands, or feet, to
achieve desired results. Plan, organize, and conduct practice sessions.
Monitor athletes use of equipment to ensure safe and proper use. Keep
abreast of changing rules, techniques, technologies, and philosophies
relevant to their sport. Explain and enforce safety rules and
regulations. OTHER EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: PRIMARY
QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of gymnastics skills/rules and safety
awareness are required. Personal experience as a gymnast, background in
Y sports philosophy, and experience teaching at individual or group
levels are beneficial. SKILLS/COMPETENCIES: Ability to recognize
individual differences and adjust lessons accordingly. Must be sensitive
to the needs of individuals and have the ability to build rapport with
participants and parents. Other critical competencies include patience,
problem solving creativity, motivational skills and a spirit of good
sportsmanship. Must exhibit the Y core values of respect,
responsibility, honesty and caring. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Position
requires employee to observe/evaluate facility and groups of
participants/staff by sight and sound. Must be able to easily move
through all program areas and effectively communicate and actively
interact with program participants and family members. Must be able to
lift, carry and load equipment, furnishings, and program supplies up to
50 pounds. Must be able to perform physical functions necessary to
program instruction (including but not limited to: squatting, bending,
kneeling, spotting program participants, and demonstrating use of
program apparatus or program skill). APPLICATION
