School Resource Officer – Deputy Sheriff

The Lake County Sheriffs Office is accepting applications for the position of School Resource Officer / Deputy Sheriff.

As the SRO, your primary responsibilities will be to work directly with children, parents, teachers, and administrators in a school setting. The chosen candidate will be trustworthy and capable of handling sensitive, confidential information in accordance with Montana Law. As a Deputy Sheriff, you will respond to emergency calls for service, enforce the law, and conduct other duties of the Sheriffs Office. Accuracy in report writing, effectively dealing with the public, handling stressful situations calmly and effectively are tasks that are performed daily by Deputies.
The State of Montana requires that all Peace Officers meet the following criteria:
-Be a citizen of the United States;
-Be at least 18 years of age;
-Be fingerprinted and search made of the local, state and national fingerprint files to disclose any criminal record;
-Not have been convicted of a crime for which the person could have been imprisoned in a federal or state penitentiary;
-Be of good moral character, as determined through a background investigation;
-Be a high school graduate or have passed the general education development (GED) test and have been issued an equivalency certificate by the superintendent of public instruction or by an appropriate issuing agency of another state or the federal government;
-Be examined by a licensed physician, who is not the applicants personal physician, appointed by the employing authority to determine if the applicant is free from any mental or physical condition that might adversely affect performance by the applicant of the duties of a police officer;
-Successfully complete an oral examination conducted by the appointed authority or its designated representative to demonstrate the possession of communication skills, temperament, motivation, and other characteristics necessary to the accomplishment of the duties and functions of a peace officer;
-Possess or be eligible for a valid Montana drivers license.
This role requires as least 2 years of full-time law enforcement experience and current POST certification.

HOURS/DAYS: The position requires adjusting to changing shifts; evenings, weekends, holidays and hours not included in the normal schedule may be required. This is a full-time position.
WAGE: $27.11/hour $100/month SRO pay. This is a union covered position.
