Job Summary
The Pharmacist in Charge position oversees and supports the daily operations of the assigned pharmacy areas, including supervision of pharmacy staff, the medication use process, and clinical pharmacy services in the assigned area. The Pharmacist in Charge effectively performs the pharmacist duties and responsibilities for the area. The Pharmacist in Charge uphold rules and regulations of the department. This role communicates effectively with the Director of Pharmacy and other pharmacy leadership regarding departmental issues and needs and maintains relationships with interdisciplinary leadership team to ensure patient, staff, and hospital needs are met.
Job Duties
Provides clinical and operational oversight and accountability of the assigned pharmacy areas.
Fulfills pharmacist duties and responsibilities as required in their practice area.
Functions as a collaborative, engaged team member in all interactions within Enterprise Pharmacy as well as with other departments and multidisciplinary committees.
Provides administrative leadership support to the Enterprise Pharmacy Leadership team in the specified areas.
Assures compliance of the assigned pharmacy areas with accreditation bodies and maintains compliance with regulatory and corporate compliance standards.
Works in conjunction with the leadership team in the development, revision, and auditing of the department’s policies, clinical and operational procedures, and collaborative practice agreements.
Monitors and interprets data including pharmaceutical usage, medication costs, and patient outcomes. Targets improvement opportunities and implements and monitors improvements.
Monitors processes such as scheduling, staffing, medication management, clinical programs, protocols, communications, and procurement, and pharmaceutical waste.
Supports corporate compliance programs and reports questionable situations, concerns, and complaints immediately.
Communicates effectively with the Director of pharmacy regarding departmental issues and needs.
Supports medication availability through timely completion and/or supervision of automated dispensing cabinet restock process.
Documents or supervises documentation related to dispensing, compounding, and restocking including temp logs, inspection logs, unit dosing logs, etc.
Orders medications and manages pharmacy inventory effectively.
Participates in scheduled interdisciplinary activities.
Serves as the Pharmacist in Charge for the Pharmacy license for the assigned site.
