The Software Wellness Innovation, Facilitation, and Technology Department (L53A) in the Software Engineering Innovation Center is seeking a Chief Architect to advance the practice of architecting software solutions that help solve our sponsor’s toughest challenges.

The Chief Architect for Software Wellness, a technical leadership role within our organization, will drive key aspects of the organization’s strategy and outcomes. The selected individual will oversee software architecture activities, assessments, and innovation initiatives, working with existing software architects and helping grow and mentor new ones. They will work across a geographically diverse organization and across a number of different sponsor and technical domains.

Roles & Responsibilities:

Assume the role of the inaugural Chief Architect for Software Wellness, working with leadership to define and grow the role

Plan, develop, and oversee a set of strategic outcomes to advance software architecture processes, assessment, and innovation

Develop impactful work in software architecture across key sponsors

Identify, lead, and nurture business services in response to our sponsors’ needs and technical trends

Work in partnership with other software architects and organizational leadership to provide mentorship, engagement, shared goals and outcomes

Collaborate with other architects throughout MITRE to develop shared approaches and impacts

Ensure technical quality of software architectural approaches throughout the organization

Act as a key technical resource for our sponsors and programs

Collaborate with work leaders to develop strategic approaches and impacts

Provide technical domain-specific knowledge, leadership, and influence internally and externally across multiple stakeholders

Basic Qualifications:

Minimum of 12 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 8 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 5 years’ experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.

Experience managing projects and/or experience as a direct supervisor / group lead

Ability to obtain and maintain Top Secret clearance

Experience developing work programs, shaping work programs, and creating program relationships

10 years experience in modern software languages such as Python, Java, C/C, and/or Javascript

Experience working with large, complex software systems and key software system processes (technical debt mitigation, agile development, system architecture, legacy modernization, etc)

10 years experience as a software architect

Familiarity with architecture and modeling tools and techniques

Demonstrated technical stature in software engineering and/or software architecture topics, including publications, presentations, and/or patents

This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site

Preferred Qualifications:

Active Top Secret clearance

Masters, PhD or other advanced degree in computer science, software engineering, or related field

Salary compensation range and midpoint:

$181,000 – $226,000 – $271,000 Annual
