Title: PAINTER Location: United States-Virginia-Norfolk Job Number: 240003MT Job Summary: Responsible for applying paint to various surfaces including buildings, counters, and cabinets using standard techniques such as brushing, rolling, and spraying. Candidates should possess knowledge of fining-textured finishes, marbling, mottling, and graining techniques. Duties and Responsibilities: – Apply paint to a variety of surfaces in accordance with established guidelines. – Demonstrate understanding of accepted surface preparation techniques and coating methods, including those that achieve special effects. – Prepare coating materials by blending, tinting, toning, and incorporating various additives. – Create shapes and level surfaces using metal, synthetic resins, plastics, and patching compounds. – Achieve smooth surfaces using abrasives and rectify dents through burn-in processes; apply precoating agents as necessary. – Ensure that the final coating finish meets specified texture and thickness standards. – Utilize a range of tools and equipment, including brushes, rollers, spray guns, trowels, straight edges, viscosity testers, and graining devices. – Maintain physical stamina, as the position requires standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in physically demanding positions. – Regularly lift, carry, and set up materials and equipment weighing up to 10 pounds; occasionally handle items weighing 40 pounds or more. – Work in both indoor and outdoor settings, with exposure to dirt, spray, and fumes; occasionally face adverse weather conditions requiring protective clothing. – Recognize and mitigate safety risks associated with potential cuts, bruises, and falls from ladders and scaffolding. – Perform other related tasks as assigned. Qualifications: General Experience Possesses one year of experience and has acquired the knowledge and skills necessary to apply standard painting techniques, including brushing, rolling, and spraying, on a variety of surfaces such as buildings, walls, countertops, and cabinets. Substitution of Education for Experience A maximum of one year of general experience may be substituted with one year of high school education or a GED, allowing for the conversion of three months of general experience for each year of education up to a High School Diploma or GED. Specialized Experience Holds five years of experience in professional painting, which includes expertise in techniques such as rubbing down fine-textured finishes, marbling, mottling, and graining. Proficient in surface preparation and coating methods, including those that produce special effects. Physical Requirements Capable of performing tasks that require standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in physically demanding positions. Regularly lifts, carries, and sets up materials and equipment weighing up to 10 pounds, with occasional handling of materials and equipment weighing 40 pounds or more.
