BOILER PLANT OPERATOR

Responsibilities You will interpret blueprints, sketches, and maintenance literature to verify and maintain quality control of boiler plant operations. You will follow boiler plant operator safety procedures to prevent damage to boilers or personnel. You will analyze equipment and plant operating conditions to determine adjustments or corrections necessary for boiler operations. You will adjust automatic electrical combustion controls, magnetic valves, and programming controls for safe and efficient operation of boilers. You will analyze boiler and feed water to determine chemical treatment needed. You will change burner tips as required due to different fuels or firing rates. You will use fuel specifications, steam tables, and other guides to check plant efficiency. This is a bargaining unit position. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION: Ability to perform the full range of BOILER PLANT OPERATOR tasks including operating and maintaining a Central Heating Plant (CHP) and co-generation plant on ones own initiative under general supervision, subject to occasional inspection.
