Your Specific Responsibilities:
I. Routine Health Support functions:
Prepares client for clinic visit; performs measurements for height, weight, temperature, medical history, and enters the information into the client’s chart.
Assists physicians with patient care, treatments, and procedures; Sets up trays and instruments for procedures, passes instruments.
Cleans, sterilizes, and stores equipment after procedure.
Assists with client routing in the clinic area. Maintains optimum clinic flow by preparing exam rooms and directing clients to various stations. Identifies problems and seeks solutions in concert with clinic staff.
Prepares inventories and helps with ordering supplies and LARC devices following the FDOH guidelines. Processes reconciliation of received orders to ensure accuracy and accountability.
Assists in maintaining inventory of medical supplies, checks supply in lab, work-up area, and exam rooms daily, makes a list of items needed and restocks labs, work-up area, and exam rooms as necessary. Monitors patient education material supplies and replenishes supply as needed before and during clinic sessions. Maintains a clean and safe work environment by conducting routine checks of equipment and cleaning equipment in the lab, work-up area, and exam rooms.
Laboratory support services per protocol, or as instructed by provider, supervisor and/or professional staff.
Completes laboratory specimen collection and prepares specimens for in-house or outside laboratory analysis (includes urine, capillary, and venous blood); assists in labeling and processing specimens obtained by providers.
Performs in-house laboratory testing; including Venipunctures, urinalysis, hemoglobin, and pregnancy tests as needed.
Prepares laboratory specimens for Ringling, State Lab and commercial laboratory.
Anticipates and communicates deficiencies with supervisor.
Prepares and submits reports needed for state program requirements.
Monitors HIV/Hepatitis C specialist referrals and submits applications for Hepatitis C Patient Assistance Programs.
Obtains authorizations for medications, referrals etc. for HIV and Specialty Services clients.
Assists STD Clinicians with PrEP and nPEP treatments and reports.
II. Routine clerical support functions:
Admissions:
Monitor the admission processes ensuring adequate staffing and flow.
Update the computer database with the current demographic and personal information and
insurance information.
Ensure that the proper documentation is obtained from the patient including:
Consent for Treatment form.
HIPPA forms
Driver’s License
Social Security card
Insurance cards (if applicable)
Validates patient eligibility using FMMIS, and the HMO websites to ensure current doctor coverage.
Ensures proper forms and labeling are completed and sent into clinic.
Appointments:
Uses the HMS system to appoint appropriate time slots to patients.
Verifies all demographic and insurance information before securing appointment slot.
Assists appointment clerk when backed up or overflow.
III. Other Duties:
Submits timesheets in Peoples’ First timely each pay period.
Enters EARS into the HMS system timely, within the 7day allotted time period.
Reads and utilizes e-mail daily to ensure proper communication between supervisor and co-workers on work related issues.
Participates in unit Quality Improvement initiatives to ensure quality assurance of primary care services.
Attends and participates in unit, division, and agency staff meetings.

Qualifications:
Minimum –
High school diploma or GED
Certification as a medical assistant
One to three years of experience as a medical assistant
One to three years of phlebotomy experience
Preferred –
Certification by the American Association of Medical Assistants, The American Medical Technologists, or the National Center for Competency Testing
One or more years of experience conducting patient intakes
Bilingualism
