Job Summary and Qualifications
Job Summary:
The PACU RN Manager in collaboration with the Perioperative Director create a common vision to facilitate continuous quality improvement in the delivery of patient care in support of the organizations mission and vision. The PACU RN Manager in collaboration with the Perioperative Nursing Director assume the role of leader in planning, organizing, coaching and facilitating their intraoperative department functions and staff to assure quality service on a twenty-four (24) hour basis. The PACU RN Manager and the Perioperative Director are responsible for meeting JCAHO Standards, complying with the organizations policy and procedures, for managing supplies and equipment on their unit(s), for promoting teamwork with physicians and all health care providers, for promoting internal and external customer satisfaction, and for appropriate resource management. The PACU RN Manager has the direct-line responsibility for day to day operations and overall responsibility for the PACU department, insuring that all staff has effective management, good communication and appropriate discipline. The PACU Nurse Manager is responsible for the implementation and evaluation of all nursing care and related activities. Job may include direct supervision of students at the discretion of the area supervisor. Employee must have the same licensure or have completed the same training to satisfy the requirements of the discipline of the student. Direct supervision means the primary caregiver is readily available to the student throughout the shift.
In this role you will:
Maintains current knowledge of health care trends as well as nursing and surgical practice
Manages and supports supervisors and charge RNs to ensure quality of work.
Keeps the Administrative Director informed of any unusual concerns, situations or conditions relative to patients and medical staff.
Keeps and maintains all records of safety surveys within the department.
Evaluates and recommends purchase of capital equipment.
Recognizes/develops new services/processes to present to Division Director as appropriate.
Collaborates with others in planning patient care.
Responds promptly and accurately to meet patients needs.
In conjunction with other members of the health care team, plans for discharge.
Recognizes patients’ needs to assert independence and reluctance to express dependency needs and anxiety about hospitalization.
Adheres to aseptic technique.
Administers medication safely and accurately utilizing the “5 rights”.
Provides patient/family education as per department and hospital policy and procedure.
Assists with patient/family/significant other’s learning needs, abilities and readiness to learn. Identifies barriers to learning, such as language or culture. Integrates this information into the patient’s plan of care.
Identifies and documents patient/family/SO’s education needs in collaboration with other disciplines and implements an on-going education relevant to these needs.
Explains tests, procedures, disease processes, medications and equipment to patient and family throughout the course of treatment.
Documents patient teaching on appropriate teaching tool for each teaching episode.
Provides teaching material as needed (pamphlets, video tapes, etc.) to enhance patient teaching.
Collaborates with other health care providers in developing a teaching plan for patient.
Ensures patient/family/SO understand discharge instructions.
Ensure the application of Customer Service principles in meeting and exceeding the expectations of internal and external customers to provide satisfaction.
Job Requirements:
Advanced Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 6 months of employment start date
Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
Registered Nurse
Registered Nurse Diploma, or Bachelors Degree, or Associate Degree
