Job Summary
The History program in the School of Humanities at the University of Southern Mississippi invites qualified applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in History with expertise in Public History. Individual research emphasis is open. The successful applicant should have a background working in one or more of the following: museums; historic sites or parks; cultural centers; historical societies; special archives and libraries; state, local, and federal historical agencies; Digital History; and/or private historical contracting.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Direct our graduate certificate in Public History
Direct our undergraduate Public and Applied History minor
Expand professional development opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students through relationships with public history institutions.
Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in public history, world history surveys, and in area of expertise.
Direct theses and dissertations
Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
PhD in history or a related field at the time of appointment. Promise of excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service are expected. Background working in public history as described above.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Basic computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office software
