Civil Engineer – Senior Level (Hybrid)

Job Description: Summary: The person in this position will work with multidisciplinary project teams. This person must be experienced in civil engineering design and analysis related to site layout, grading and drainage, mass earthwork, etc. Work will involve technical assignments including design with CADD modeling software, preparation of construction plans and specifications, spreadsheet preparation, site development design, report writing, large-report preparation, construction cost estimating, construction observation, and facility inspection. This person will also perform a strategic leadership role. Administrative responsibilities such as business development, project management, and project planning and scheduling are also part of this strategic role. This person will serve as a mentor to junior and mid-level engineers to grow civil engineering expertise and project management skills by reviewing technical reports, providing guidance on operations-related tasks, and providing input to personal and professional growth. The work may require short-term, out-of-town work assignments. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelors degree in civil engineering 10 or more years of related work experience Professional engineer (PE) certification or ability to obtain certification within one year Project management experience with a clear record of successful execution Familiarity with AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, Civil 3D and computer simulation modeling Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills Willingness to work in a project team environment that encourages self-initiative Flexible working style as required to meet deadlines and/or client needs Possession of a valid drivers license and acceptable driving record Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship from Barr, now or in the future Preferred Qualifications: 15 years of relevant work experience Experience working in consulting engineering Piping and draining experience Railroad track design experience Strong relationships with clients and the ability to develop or foster ongoing relationships and maintain a high level of client service A hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position is be based out of Barrs Hibbing, Minnesota, office. NOTE: Some work locations will feature the rough terrain typical of construction sites or require lifting or moving field testing equipment. Safety training will be provided prior to being given work assignments on these sites.
