## Distinguishing Features of Work
This is skilled, technical work responsible for installation, operation,
maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of instrumentation, control,
communication, and/or electrical equipment in a water plant, pump
station, wellfield, and/or recharge facility. Specific duties vary
according to assigned location(s) and competency level of the employee.
Work is directed and reviewed by a supervisor.
Compensation will be based on individual experience and determined at
hire based on skills and competencies. The role provides additional
opportunities for swift pay progression linked to the development of
skills and competencies. The salary range for this position is $28.21 –
$41.45 per hour.
WORK LOCATION: 1800 W Museum Dr.
Multiple shifts are available:
– 1st shift – 7:30am – 3:30pm
– 2nd shift – 3:00pm – 11:30pm
– 3rd shift – 11:00pm – 7:30am
– All three shifts are either Sunday – Thursday or Tuesday – Saturday.
– All new employees with be trained on 1st shift Monday – Friday and
then assigned a new shift and location based on divisional
seniority.
Work locations and shifts will be determined at hire. Some weekend
work will be required. Applicants for this position could be used to
fill other vacancies

Employees within the department or division shall be given first
consideration
## Examples of Work Performed
– Installs, maintains, repairs, and adjusts electric motors, switches,
wiring, fuses, and transformers.
– Uses electrical testing devices to diagnose and resolve problems in
electrical systems and equipment.
– Installs, inspects, analyzes, maintains, and repairs various types
of electrical equipment and electronic control systems, including
programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and Supervisory Control and
Data Acquisition (SCADA) components.
– Calibrates electronic meters and instruments.
– Perform required quality control and maintenance for on-line
instrumentation.
– Troubleshoot communications and instrumentation problems.
– May work near high voltage electrical equipment.
– Advises in the development of specifications and drawings.
– Coordinates and inspects installations and repairs by contractors.
– Completion of work assignments will require the operation of a
vehicle.
– More complex work assignments will be required as employees attain
higher levels of competency.

responsibilities as needed, including but not limited to tasks
performed by O&M Specialists, Water Quality Specialists, and Process
Control Specialists.
## Requirements of Work
– Knowledge of the methods, tools, and materials used in electrical,
electronic, and related mechanical repair work.
– Knowledge in the use of electrical testing devices.
– Considerable knowledge of occupational hazards and necessary safety
precautions
– Knowledge of the standard computer keyboard configurations and
ability to access, interpret, and record information using a video
display terminal and electronic keyboard
– Ability to read and interpret drawings, blueprints, and
specifications
– Ability to legibly maintain written and electronic records
– Ability to use the tools and apparatus common to the electrical
trade area
– Ability to bend, twist, turn, pull, and stretch on a daily basis as
required to perform electrical repair work, possibly in confined
areas such as a closet
– Ability to carry, set up, and climb a 20 foot extension ladder on a
daily basis
– Ability to remove and carry an electric motor or similar equipment
weighing up to 75 pounds
– Ability to push and/or pull a machine or hand truck with 20 pounds
resistance while walking
– May require ability to carry a 20 pound light fixture up a 20 foot
extension ladder and install it
– Ability to work outdoors in inclement weather conditions
– Ability to drive at night
– Ability to be available for after-hour emergencies including on-call
duties
– Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with
associates, representatives of other organizations, and the public
– Ability to orally communicate clearly and effectively
– Ability to acquire and maintain a valid Kansas drivers license
– An employee shall not pose a direct threat to the health or safety
of other individuals in the workplace.
