Advance Practice Provider (APP) – Urgent Care – Full time, Days

The Advanced Practice Provider is responsible for providing direct consumer care to assigned consumers within an urgent care setting. This position works under limited direction yet in coordination with an APP lead. Typical work scenarios require specialized knowledge, critical thinking, sound judgment based upon the principles of biological, physiological, behavioral, and sociological sciences skills, as well as strong customer service skills. Internal contacts include medical staff and management throughout the clinic and health system. External contacts include consumers, physicians, outside medical staff, and community resource services. Home Location: 125 Davis Blvd, Southlake, Texas 76092 This position will float across multiple Texas Health Urgent Care locations. Essential Functions

Performs and provides treatments for minor acute illness, consumer examinations, making initial assessment, initiating treatment and referring to appropriate center of care when applicable.

Determines abnormal conditions by administering or ordering diagnostic tests, such as x-rays, electrocardiograms, and laboratory studies; interpreting test results.

Performs therapeutic procedures by administering injections and immunizations; suturing; managing wounds and infections.

Instructs and counsels consumers by describing therapeutic regimens; giving normal growth and development information and promoting wellness and health maintenance.

Develops and implements consumer management plans, records progress notes, and assists in provision of continuity of care. May be required to supervise ancillary staff.

Prescribes pharmaceuticals, other medications, and treatment regimens as appropriate to assessed medical conditions and refers consumers to specialist and to relevant consumer care options as appropriate.

Demonstrates good organizational skills in coordinating services with co-workers and other departments/services.

Responds to stressful situations in a calm, rational manner and cooperates with all to facilitate integration of services.

Behaves in a professional and empathetic manner to build trust, comfort, understanding, and relationships with consumers and the secondary guest(s) and in-line with consumer and guest service standards.

Education

Masters Degree Nursing or Physician Assistant required and

Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program required

Experience

6 Months as an APP in an urgent care, or emergency department setting required or

1 Year Family practice or related field required

Suturing experience strongly preferred

Licenses and Certifications

RN – Registered Nurse with the state of Texas upon hire required and

NP – Nurse Practitioner with Texas Licensure and Certificate to practice as a Nurse Practitioner issued by the Texas State Board upon hire required and

National Certification or eligible for certification as Nurse Practitioner upon hire required Or

PA – Physician Assistant with the state of Texas upon hire required and

Texas Licensure and Certificate to practice as a Physician Assistant issued by the Texas State Board upon hire required and

National Certification or eligible for certification as Physician Assistant upon hire required and

Valid Drug Enforcement Agency license upon hire required

BCLS – Basic Cardiac Life Support (through AHA or American Red Cross), maintained every 2 years required within 30 days of hire

Skills and Abilities

Strong oral and written communication skills

Knowledge of national medical best practices within an urgent care setting

Knowledge of and skill in the use of personal computers and related systems and software

Ability to work efficiently under pressure

Ability to work independently and take initiative

Ability to willingly accept responsibility

Ability to set priorities and use good judgement
