POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Director of Facilities Management the coordinator of Emergency Management /Life Safety, is responsible for the coordination and supervision of compliance activities for the Emergency Preparedness and Life Safety standards. No direct patient care functions are provided by this position. The employee performs additional tasks/activities as assigned. Provides leadership and consultative services to departments and services within the organization to assist in achieving facility emergency preparedness/regulatory/accreditation compliance.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Emergency Management/Life Safety Manager is assigned to monitor and respond to conditions in the facilities environment.

Assist with the Emergency Management and Safety committee(s).

Conducts and assist with the on-going organization-wide collection of information about deficiencies and opportunities for improvement in the environment of care.

Coordinates the on-going organization-wide collection and dissemination of other sources of information, such as published hazard notices or recall reports.

Coordinates the environment risk assessment with Department Safety Officers (DESO) and preparation of summaries of deficiencies, problems, failures and user errors related to managing the environment of care.

Coordinates and assist with the preparation of summaries on findings, recommendations, actions taken, and results of PI activities.

Leads the decontamination team – development, staffing & training

Coordinates emergency preparedness activities for the hospital in collaboration with local agencies

Attends critical community coordination meetings & collaborates on drills/exercises

Coordination and training of hospital staff on disaster organization & responsibilities

Manages Government funding programs and disaster supply inventories

Develops agendas for Emergency Preparedness meetings & identifies issues for discussion

Revises policies as required

Assist with monitoring and/or conducts activities to ensure documentation on regulatory compliance and survey readiness by all agencies and authorities having jurisdiction.

Coordinates and conducts all Fire Drills.

Reviews records, reports, logs, and files as required.

Must be able to supervise the successful completion of all duties and special projects.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

1. Education/Skills

Bachelor’s Degree preferred

1. Experience

Minimum of 3 years in Emergency Management / Life Safety, preferably in healthcare maintenance or engineering operations.

Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills, team facilitation and project management.

Possess a strong knowledge of industry standards and Life Safety Code (LSC), National Fire Prevention Association (NFPA), Environment of Care (EOC), Emergency Management, State of Texas Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Occupational Safety and Healthcare Administration (OSHA), Center for Disease Control (CDC), organizational management; quality improvement and change management techniques; planning, accreditation and regulatory standards and the ability to interpret the requirements as applicable to assigned areas; strategic planning principles,

Proficient in computers and all applications of MicroSoft Office.
