The Senior Manager, Construction Safety Americas is accountable for deploying comprehensive construction safety standard methodologies and tactics to ensure safe work practices on all projects throughout project construction and commissioning across the regions.
This role will report directly to Senior Director, Engineering and Construction Safety Center of Excellence (COE). The individual will ensure accurate implementation of safety programs and tactics across the Americas region.
Other key relationships include project teams, construction management partners, EH&S (Environmental Health & Safety) and leadership teams in E&PS and Sector Supply Chains.
A suitable candidate will have strong understanding and technical specialization in CS engineering and EH&S to recognize and control risks potentially posed by all activities and related works in the construction and renovation of manufacturing sites, warehouses, office buildings, and laboratories.
Key Responsibilities :
Embed CS Standards and Programs
Deploy CS standards across project sites to assure compliance with health & safety laws and J&J standards, proactive risk management on construction projects and ensure all who come to work on our sites return home safe every day.
Ensures standards are communicated to all construction safety partners and their subcontractors.
Collaborates with the CS operations team, identifying, adapting, and implementing consistent visual standards and safety programs across Americas.
Communicates updates to project teams; works with teams to build project specific CS plans.
Prepares safety alerts, bulletins, and procedures for internal and external partners.
Conducts safety trainings on application of standards and use of CS related tools (e.g., templates, digital tools).
Support the on-site Project Safety Resources in deployment of standards, programs, technical support, safety culture and capability building..
Audit, Report and Remediate
Visits construction sites and conducts inspections/audits/peer reviews in close collaboration with project teams. Shares Construction Safety scorecard trends. Discusses positive observations and opportunities for improvement.
Identifies appropriate remediation activities for incidents or hazards and ensures remediation is carried out. Employs a closed looped system to assess, mitigate and monitor safety risks.
Compiles construction safety trends and metrics (leading and lagging) across Americas, develops reports and management review content to drive continuous improvement and accountability.
Qualifications
Education:
University/Bachelor’s or equivalent level degree is required.
Concentration in Science, Engineering, Construction Management or related Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) field/degree is preferred.
Experience and Skills
Required:
A minimum of eight to ten (8-10) years of related experience.
Proven successful experience in construction safety management and EH&S.
Shown success controlling a comprehensive array of CS & Environmental risks in large capital construction projects across J&J businesses or at another company with equivalent complexity.
Ability to collaborate with and influence construction managers and labor force and related field activities in implementation of regional safety codes and behavior-based safety processes.
Consistent record of accomplishment in preventing injuries in core construction, protecting the environment, and conserving natural resources.
Significant experience collaborating with construction site project teams.
Effective communicator, capable of securing positive outcomes through discussions with key company leaders.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Other:
Proficiency in English (both oral and written) is required.
This position will require up to 50% domestic and international travel.
The anticipated base pay range for this position is $118,000 to $203,550.
The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation’s performance over a calendar/performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company’s discretion on an individual basis.

Holiday pay, including Floating Holidays – up to 13 days per calendar year of Work, Personal and Family Time – up to 40 hours per calendar year
