Laser Operator/Programmer

JOB SUMMARY
The laser and waterjet operator creates nesting programs for the cutting machines (laser, water jet, etc..) Operates the laser and waterjet. Separates, deburrs, and labels parts that come from the laser and water-cutting machines, and is responsible for meeting the daily production requirements. This position is dedicated to getting the job done right the first time and promotes a safe work environment focused on overall continuous improvement and world-class manufacturing.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The following represents a list of essential duties and responsibilities. Other duties may be assigned or re-assigned as the Manufacturing Facility expands.

– Creation of nesting programs for the cutting machines (laser, waterjet, etc.) using AlmaCAM
– Operates Trumpf Trulaser 3030 CO2 laser with attached STOPA TKL automated sheet storage system and Trumpf liftmaster cantilever.
– Operates Flow Mach 500 waterjet.
– Offline programming of the programs.
– Optimization of nesting in terms of sheet metal consumption.
– Creation of working papers and labels for downstream processes
– Scheduling of the production parts, creation of storage programs, and optimizing lot sizes.
– Answering inquiries from other departments.
– Provide timely information regarding problems in production that may adversely affect quality, delivery, or customer requirements.
– Knowledge/use of appropriate tools to keep machines in operation.
– Attention to detail; adherence to all standards of quality and safety.
– Addressing machine malfunctions in an efficient and expedited manner.
– Chart machine performance and administer routine checks/maintenance.
– Plan the sequences of operation to achieve optimal precision and tolerances.
– Make suggestions for further improvements in the program to shorten run times.
– Analyze tooling, setups, and procedures and make recommendations for improvements.
– Read and understand manufacturing drawings in order to classify them by part type and thickness.
– Remain constantly alert to detect improper machining.
– Troubleshoot material issues as they arise.
– Work as part of the team to share ideas and improve operations, recommending, supporting, and implementing continuous improvement activities and process and procedure improvements to optimize results and improve quality of delivery, in line with quality standards.
– Undertake continuous training and development.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Consistent attendance is expected. Flexibility to respond to troubleshooting issues. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in a shop setting with exposure to shop noise, dust and particles to be expected in this role
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

– Physically active role
– Must have manual dexterity – to operate and utilize a variety of power and hand tools assembly or shop tasks required – use of hands and feet equired – data entry possible.
– Lifting of metal is involved that can be heavy
– Regularly required to stand, reach, bend, squat, push, pull and move about the facility
– Walk or stand at least 8 hours per day
– Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
– Regularly lift 30-50 pounds.
– Regularly perform repetitive tasks.
– Vision and dexterity for using computers and machine user interfaces.
– Hearing and vision are important to the Shop Labors safety on the job, as well as to be able to read blueprints and specifications. Consistent attendance due to tight production schedules is required to meet the needs of our customers.

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
This is a full-time position. Standard days and hours of work are Monday – Friday, currently starting at
6AM with a 30 minute lunch (this is subject to change)
Travel
A valid passport is required. A training trip to Germany is required.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS

– High school diploma or GED, or equivalent years of experience.
– High-level computer skills.
– Previous nesting experience.
– Previous experience operating and troubleshooting Trumpf brand lasers.
– Familiar with the concept of nesting.

Preferred Education and Experience

– Mechanical aptitude and knowledge of hand tool equipment
– Equipment Manufacturing background a plus
– Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel, and knowledge of an ERP system.
– Experience operating Flow water cutting equipment.
