Summary

CHS, Inc. has an exciting opportunity at our Oil Refinery in McPherson, KS . We are looking for a Refinery Process Safety Engineer to work with the PSM Manager to continuously improve the CHS McPherson Refinery operations with the development, implementation, and continual improvement of an Integrated Safety Management System designed to achieve Refinery objectives for Loss Control in the areas of Health, Safety, Process Safety, and Employee Training. You must be a detail-oriented, results-driven individual with a commitment to quality, accuracy, and the ability to organize and prioritize workloads to meet deadlines. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a strong commitment to customer service, the ability to gain consensus, and the ability to work in a team environment and on self-directed tasks are necessary.

Responsibilities

Partner with key operations, maintenance, and technical support groups to achieve a shared vision for Process Safety through the application of Process Safety standards and industry best practices, management system ownership, and routine interaction and auditing.

Develop and maintain expertise in multiple areas of process safety engineering (e.g., PSM, RMP, PHA, LOPA, SIL systems, etc.) as well as generally accepted good engineering practices (RAGAGEP) and process safety related government and industry standards (i.e., OSHA, NFPA, ASME, EPA and API).

Employ management system tools (e.g., PRiSM, Enablon, MAXIMO, and SAP) to develop and drive Standards, SOPs, Plans, Administrative Controls and Systems targeted to achieve our Operational Excellence Program objectives for establishing industry leading personal safety, process safety, and regulatory compliance programs and their supporting training programs.

Lead risk assessment activities, investigations/learning events, participate in compliance audits, oversee and utilize software systems, and will be responsible for certain Process Safety programs (e.g., MOC, PSSR, PHA, facility siting, car sealing, and inhibits/bypass).

Manage site Management of Change program, including key performance indicators, management review and leadership support for execution and improvement. Assure all requirements for Change are completed and documentation is submitted for closure of the MOC.

Work with Engineering and Maintenance to assure Planned Preventative Maintenance programs include Process Safety consideration, including maintenance of critical safety equipment and best practice.

Maintain and promote a strong safety culture and follow all safety policies, procedures, and regulations.

Perform other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications (required)

Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, or related engineering discipline

2 years of experience in refinery operations, engineering or related field

Additional Qualifications

5 years of refinery operations experience

Experience with management systems such as OHSAS 18001:2007, ISO 14001:2004, ISO 50001, and/or Six Sigma

Proficient with PRiSM, Enablon, Maximo, SAP, Meridian, MS Office, and SharePoint

Knowledge of data analysis techniques, root cause analysis tools and applications

Physical Requirements

Must be able to wear personal protective equipment, including respirators.
