POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit,
charitable organization committed to strengthening community through
youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Swim
Instructor teaches swim lessons in accordance with YMCA policies and
Y-USA instructor training. The Swim Instructor builds relationships with
swim lesson participants in beginner, intermediate, and advanced swim
lesson sessions.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Plan and teach swim instruction to Y swim lesson participants,
offering a variety of program activities depending on swimmer
ability and swimming level.
2. Maintain equipment inventory by selecting, storing, and issuing swim
lesson equipment as needed.
3. Evaluate individuals abilities, needs, and physical conditions,
offering alternative movements and activities to accommodate and
keep the class enjoyable.
4. Explain and enforce safety rules and regulations about the Aquatic
facility and swim lesson equipment to swim lesson participants.
5. Monitor participant progress and administer feedback to swim lesson
participants and/or families, through conversation and written
materials.
6. Track attendance of participants and manage group lessons of up to
ten participants.
7. Knows, reviews, and applies all safety, emergency, and child abuse
prevention policies and procedures, responding to emergency
situations in accordance with YMCA protocol.
8. Attends all staff meetings and Inservice training to maintain
skills, build connections with staff, and exchange ideas with
others.
QUALIFICATIONS:
– At least 15 years of age
– YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor certification preferred.
– Exhibits great communication and listening skills to work with staff
and members, delivering a quality experience
– Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all
social and economicsegments of the community.
– Completion of YMCA required training upon hire.
– Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people
from different backgrounds.
STARTING PAY:$15.00/hr
