The position reports to the Managing Counsel who is responsible for state regulatory matters. This position is classified as mobile (0 to 2 days) in the office per week.

The Legal department provides exceptional counsel that assures legal compliance and enables FirstEnergy to optimize business outcomes in all legal, regulatory and commercial contexts. The Legal department is involved in every major activity and initiative involving all entities of FirstEnergy Corp.
The State Regulatory Attorney will work directly with business units, department lawyers and outside counsel on regulatory matters and in proceedings before state regulatory commission(s). This individual will handle legal matters and projects to include advising internal clients with respect to relevant statutory and, requirements, and issues, and utility commission rates, regulations, orders and utility tariff and litigation and rulemaking proceedings, while involving a meaningful amount of legal writing. The attorney will have responsibility for their own case load and will have responsibility related to complex regulatory matters.
Responsibilities:
Handling legal/regulatory matters before the state utility commission(s) and appellate courts
Working on complex regulatory matters as part of a team with attorneys, business units, and outside counsel
Handling aspects of multiple ongoing cases simultaneously
Drafting and reviewing both legal pleadings and business documents
Representing the Company in mediation and litigation of customer disputes
Providing legal support and strategic and business advice to FirstEnergy business units on state regulatory matters
Assisting, handling, and managing, as applicable, regulatory matters before various state public utility regulatory agencies
Working on litigated matters and administrative rulemaking proceeding. Attending in-person hearings
Attending in-person regulatory meetings with Commission Staff/and or Stakeholders
Qualifications:
J.D. degree from an accredited university required
Minimum 9 years relevant work experience required. Relevant work experience will include practicing law, legal writing and handling complex legal matters
Member in good standing of Maryland state bar or able to meet the state requirements to practice before the Maryland Public Service Commission
Solid written and oral communication skills
