TITLE: Urology Surgeon – Assistant/Associate Professor
DEPARTMENT: Department of Surgery, Rutgers RWJ Medical School
REPORTS TO: Chief of Urology, RWJMS
Chair, Department of Surgery
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Be accountable for overall care of patients who are admitted under divisional coverage.
Be able to develop urologic care for genitourinary trauma and genitourinary reconstruction for female, male and transgender patients.
Manage complex genitourinary trauma, urethroplasties, bladder augmentation and urinary diversion, surgical treatment of Peyronies Disease and penile prosthesis.
Collaborate with other specialties in the performance of gender affirming surgery.
Participate in the development of the transitional urology program.
Provide complete and timely consults as requested.
Provide clear instructions, explanations, and options available regarding diagnosis, treatment, medications, and follow-up to patients, family members and other health care team members.
Establish and maintain physician office hours in order to be accessible to new consults and follow up patients, adjusting as needed at designated Outpatient offices.
Make rounds on surgical patients in accordance with the expectations of the division chief.
Attend monthly meetings with key personnel to review data, outcomes, protocols, policies, procedures, and staffing to continuously monitor and improve the care rendered.
Attend departmental physician staff meetings, M&M conference, selection committee and other departmental meetings deemed appropriate by the division chief.
Participate in training and mentoring residents in the Urology Residency Training Program.
Participate in the education of residents and students.
Identify opportunities to participate in national research trials and publications.
Work with the Operating Room leadership to ensure the proper equipment and supplies are available.
Provide surgical on-call coverage as is necessary to cover clinical needs. Participate in Urology call coverage.
Assist in the development of protocols, guidelines, and critical care pathways to establish and maintain a standard level of care for Urology cases.
Safeguard patient confidentiality at all times. Limit work/patient related discussions to private areas.
Complete require medical documentation included in patients charts in accordance with the Medical Staff Bylaws.
Provide accurate, timely and complete information required for billing.
Effectively communicate with patients, family members, and other health care team members.
Demonstrate strong organizational skills; effectively delegate and prioritize work assignments; serve as a role model and team player.
