Area Coordinator

The Area Coordinator is a live-in, full-time professional staff member who is part of the Office of Residential Life and the Residential Experience team at Skidmore College!
Duties and Responsibilities:
Recruit, select, train, supervise, and evaluate 10-15 Resident Assistants (RA) and one Community Assistant (CA).
Meet bi-weekly with each RA and weekly with each CA to provide support and on-going feedback, and discuss student issues and behaviors, community trends, programs and facilities concerns.
Facilitate bi-weekly team meetings.
Coach RAs in responding to student issues, including roommate conflicts and individual physical, emotional, or psychological concerns.
Manage the RA on-duty process and other team management administrative functions.
Manage daily operations for designated residence halls and apartment buildings including routine walkthroughs, inspection and reporting of facilities concerns, etc.
Assist with housing operations to include residence hall openings and closings, room changes and data management through StarRez.
Assist with the development, planning, and implementation of fall and spring student staff training and on-going in-service training.
Assist with the housing selection process for new and returning students.
Attend and participate in weekly residential life staff meetings, weekly housing operations team meetings, Student Affairs division meetings, college-wide staff meetings, etc.
Direct a department collateral project area to include diversity, equity and inclusion work, housing operations, student conduct and community standards, and student staff recruitment, selection and training.
Support the department through summer assignments that may include summer student housing oversight, first-year experience partnership, housing operations, etc.
Participate in the Residential Life On-Call (RLOC) rotation and respond to serious incidents/emergencies on campus when on-call and advise RAs in responding to incidents or potential policy violations in the residence halls and apartments.
Adjudicate alleged violations of college policy and follow-up on other student concerns utilizing Maxient.
Support students of concern and make appropriate referrals utilizing on-campus resources.
Collaborate with campus partners to implement diversity, equity, and inclusion trainings and initiatives for student staff.
Participate in college committees, search committees, training and development opportunities, as appropriate.
Serve as a source of information about the College and its resources to students, staff, faculty, families, and others.
Collaborate with campus partners to execute programs to enhance the residential experience.
Education: Master’s degree required in Higher Education Administration or related area of study
Experience:
Two or more years of related work experience at time of hire (graduate or professional level) preferred
Experience living and working in a residential community
Demonstrated ability to work with diverse students and staff
Excellent problem-solving, interpersonal, communication, customer service, and conflict management skills
Program and/or project development experience
Compensation:
Salary-starting salary of $59,000
Skidmore College offers an excellent benefits package, and a furnished two-bedroom apartment on campus that includes a washer and dryer unit. Pets and partners are permitted with prior approval.
