2024 Class Schedule:
November 12-22 – Mon-Fri 8 hour shifts
Schedule After Training: Three-12 hour shifts per week (36 hours). Must be able to work every other weekend (including Friday, Saturday, and Sunday) and every other holiday. Day Shift is 7am-7pm or Night Shift is 7pm-7am.
Position Purpose
The Patient Care Technician (PCT) Training Program is a Nursing Assistant training position for colleagues hired into the PCT Training Program without experience or training as a Nursing Assistant. The PCT Training Program is 80 hours in length, inclusive of classroom and clinical hours. After the training program, hired colleagues move into a Nursing Assistant position.
What you will Do
Attends didactic and clinical training sessions as outlined in the course curriculum. Adheres to attendance requirements.
Receives training to assist patients with activities including personal hygiene, bathing, ambulation, transporting, dressing/undressing, nutrition/feeding, and elimination needs.
Assists in the delivery of patient care with supervision by the LPN or RN.
Responds to patient calls and performs patient rounds to ensure the environment is safe/tidy.
Trained in the use of safe patient handling techniques when repositioning, transferring, and ambulating patients.
Observes and communicates patient needs to the nurse.
Collects and labels specimens.
Minimum Qualifications
Must have a high school diploma/GED.
Maintains certification in Basic Life Support and Iowa Mandatory Reporter, to be obtained within 3 months of hire.
Must have a general working knowledge of computers and department specific software (i.e., Healthstream, internet, etc.)
Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.
