Job Title: Electrical Controls Engineer

Job Description

The Controls Engineer is responsible for designing control systems for industrial automation machines according to customer requirements. This role involves producing electrical schematics, creating BOMs, selecting components such as sensors, motors, drives, PLCs, programming VFDs, PLCs, and HMIs, and performing equipment verification tests. The engineer will also handle the layout and wiring of components within control panels, mount sensors, and route cables for automated machines. The successful candidate will demonstrate attention to detail, knowledge of electrical design tools and methods, and provide guidance to less experienced team members. The position requires up to 5% interstate and 10% local travel for team meetings, client consultations, field surveys, and construction observation. The engineer will manage multiple projects simultaneously and be involved in quoting, customer discussions, and purchasing.

Hard Skills

Design electrical solutions for automated machines

Utilize AutoCAD Electrical for schematic development

Build accurate bill of materials

Develop PLC programs using Rockwell Studio 5000

Develop HMI programs using Rockwell FactoryTalk View

Interpret customer requirements

Submit and approve electrical design packages

Analyze test data to verify design specifications

Ensure control panels meet UL508A standards

Assemble and guide assembly of electrical control panels

Wire and terminate electrical devices

Provide technical support for equipment installations

Identify and implement equipment improvements

Technical communication with customers

Work with vendors for component selection and troubleshooting

Manage project priorities and tasks
