Job Summary
The Associate Dean, Biological and Health Sciences Division supports the Dean in providing division-wide leadership for promoting academic, administrative and fiscal responsibilities in accordance with the College’s Strategic Plan. The Associate Dean works in collaboration with the Dean in performing functions and tasks necessary to provide effective daily operations of the Division as well as support all departments under the division. The Associate Dean provides direction in developing, expanding, revising, improving, and ensuring the successful operation of multiple functional areas within the Division.
Required Qualification(s)
1. Master’s degree.
2. Minimum seven (7) years of professional work experience.
3. Minimum of two (2) years’ work experience in higher education.
4. Minimum thee (3) years of supervisory experience.
5. Demonstrated recent collaborative leadership experience.
6. Possess excellent organizational and project management skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
7. Possess strong critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills and acumen.
8. Demonstrated abilities as an effective and exceptionally skilled communicator, specifically as it relates to verbal, written communication, and active listening.
9. Demonstrated strong personal integrity, ability to form effective partnerships, ability to collaborate with others and work in a team environment consistent with the College of Lake County values.
10. Demonstrated success using inquiry and evidence to inform decision-making, short- and long-term planning.
11. Proven commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion proactively demonstrated through the ability to work effectively and collaboratively with persons of diverse cultures, language groups, identities and abilities; demonstrate sensitivity to and ability to work with the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

1. Educational background in healthcare, biology, chemistry, or horticulture.
2. Previous teaching experience in higher education.
3. Experience working at a community college.
4. Previous administrative or supervisory experience.

Work Schedule
Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. These hours will vary with the needs of the College.
Travel to all 3 campuses as well as clinical partners and community organizations is required.

Summary of Essential Functions
Biological and Health Sciences Operations Management (25%)
1. Provide oversight and support to the operations of the Horticulture department at the Grayslake campus and the Dental Hygiene department at the Lakeshore campus.
2. Develop and administer budgets in assigned areas of responsibility, implement and allocate resources upon budget approval, and approve expenditures.
3. Maintain current knowledge of accreditation standards for Healthcare programs within the division and assist the Dean and department chairs through review of departmental self-studies and hosting site visits for accrediting bodies.
4. Monitor status of clinical site agreements with external partners that participate in experiential learning and facilitate new agreements to meet clinical education needs of healthcare programs in the division.
5. Maintain departmental records in accordance with federal, state and College of Lake County standards.
Strategic Leadership and Project Management (25%)
1. Provide values-driven leadership to build and contribute to high-performing teams that provide excellence in customer service through innovative, creative and collaborative practices to all units and campuses within the College, as well as the external community.
2. Implement the strategic plan, develop a collaborative student-focused and community-focused culture, assure fiscal viability of the department, uphold policy and procedures, proactively lead talent performance and talent development, and build community relations as a collaborative partner on the Leadership Council and within a shared governance structure.
3. Champion the values of excellence, purpose, integrity, compassion, unity and inclusion as a leader of the College. Support student and employee success by demonstrating a commitment to equity, inclusion, and respectful interactions with persons of diverse ethnic, cultural, socioeconomic or educational backgrounds.
4. Serve on academic program advisory committees, representing the division with respect to programs, processes and procedures.
5. Serve as liaison to applicable internal and external stakeholders to advance recruitment, marketing and promotion of all departments within the division.
Personnel Management (40%)
1. Coach, mentor and develop employees across all departments, divisions and units of the College in collaboration with leaders throughout the College.
2. Directly hire, lead, manage, support and empower [part-time faculty] employees on the [Biological and Health Sciences] team to job success at the College.
3. Encourage and support personal and professional development and learning, well-being and work-life integration.
4. Assist in the recruitment, hiring, on-boarding, staffing, training, professional development, discipline and regular evaluation of part-time faculty in a collective bargaining environment.
5. Direct supervisory responsibility for all part-time faculty. Evaluate and oversee professional development plans and goals for assigned staff in accordance with good management practices, campus policies and collective bargaining agreements.
6. Supervise all staff members in the Horticulture and Dental Hygiene departments and monitor staffing needs in these areas.
7. Respond to and resolve academic concerns submitted by students.
8. Respond to and resolve student behavioral concerns, including disciplinary and safety issues, submitted by students, faculty, or staff.
9. Collaborate with Human Resources to ensure accurate payroll and attendance documentation for part-time faculty and staff.
Other (10%)
1. Participate on strategic and/or functional cross-departmental teams, committees and councils at the request of the division or unit leaders.
2. Participate in professional associations/organizations and educational activities that enhance subject matter expertise and leadership competencies, knowledge, understanding and interpersonal skills. Remain knowledgeable of current state and federal laws, regulations, and best practices in the field of appointment ensuring the College’s policies, procedures, practices and programs conform to laws and regulations and align with the mission, vision, values and strategic goals of the College.
3.Perform any and all other duties assigned that support the mission, vision, values and strategic initiatives of College of Lake County and goals of the department, division and unit of appointment.
KNOWLEDGE , SKILLS AND ABILITIES : College: Knowledge of college policies, procedures, and practices; ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagram form; ability to perform all essential functions using safe work methods and following safety regulations relating to job; knowledge of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act ( FERPA ).
DEPARTMENT / DIVISIONAL : Knowledge of policies, procedures, and practices with the ability to answer work related questions; and/or interpret and apply these guidelines correctly in various situations; ability to solve issues and work with diverse population, work with large crowds; ability to read and interpret instructional documents.
