## Position Type

The purpose of this position is to maintain proper certifications and assure that all federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations are followed. This is primarily accomplished by supervising the laboratory staff and collecting and analyzing water samples.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

– Schedules, collects, and analyzes water samples and determines corrective action to take if needed.
– Ensures compliance with all federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations by communicating with state regulatory personnel and municipal officials, researching and informing management of regulatory issues, and preparing and distributing reports.
– Maintains laboratories and assures proper procedures are followed.
– Supervises and trains staff by observing and directing lab personnel, completing annual employee evaluations, train personnel in lab methodology, and reports compilation and proper usage of lab equipment.
– Maintains water plant lagoon system by inspecting lagoon samples, scheduling repairs of lagoon equipment, and providing information to State official during lagoon inspections.
– Prepares the Consumer Confidence Report (CCR).

– Performs other similar duties as required.

Job Specifications and Qualifications:

Knowledge:

– Chemistry principles and practices;
– Laboratory principles and practices;
– Wastewater system principles and practices;
– Applicable local, state and federal laws, rules, and regulations;
– Budgetary principles;
– Water Treatment Facility principles and practices.

Licensing and Certifications:

– North Carolina Grade A Water Treatment Facility Operators Certification;
– Grade I Physical/Chemical Water Pollution Control Operator Certification.

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:

– Positions in this class require: standing, fine dexterity, walking, lifting, carrying, sitting, reaching, handling, vision, foot controls, hearing, twisting, and talking.

## Required Experience

Bachelors degree in Chemistry or Biology from an accredited college or university, with at least three (3) years of relevant and supervisory experience; or the City may consider an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
