Summary About the Position: This is a permanent position as an Explosives Safety Specialist. This position is located with US Army Central Safety Shaw AFB, SC. Note: Management may make selections at any grade level. Promotion to the next grade will be at managements discretion following completion of time-in-grade requirements, training, fully successful performance, and acquired and demonstrated experience. Responsibilities Investigates ammunition and explosive accidents and incidents, and weapon-related accidents and incidents. Provides technical explosives guidance and advice on such matters to Director of Safety, Senior Safety Manager, operational supervisors, USARCENT/CFLCC command group, and subordinate agencies and officials. Serve as the technical explosives safety manager governing the implementation of a comprehensive explosives safety program for all activities within USARCENT/CFLCC AOR. Monitors the effectiveness of explosives safety policies and procedures within USARCENT/CFLCC AOR that present potential safety and health hazards to military, civilian and contractor personnel, equipment, and the host nation general public. Develops explosive safety policies for the command. Prepares survey and inspection reports identifying unsafe operations and conditions, specifying corrective actions and provides recommendations for program improvements. GS-12 ($86,962.00-113,047.00): Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) assisting with inspections of facilities and equipment to determine compliance with applicable occupational safety standards; 2) providing input to reports identifying unsafe operations and conditions; and 3) advising personnel of appropriate measures to control or eliminate hazardous operating processes which may cause mishaps. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). GS-13 ($103,409.00-134,435.00): Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) developing explosives safety criteria and procedures for a military installation; 2) performing inspections of facilities and equipment to determine compliance with applicable occupational safety standards; 3) preparing reports identifying unsafe operations and conditions; and 4) advising personnel of appropriate measures to control or eliminate hazardous operating processes which may cause mishaps. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone–no substitution of education for experience is permitted. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Explosives Operations Explosives Safety Management Written Communication Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11/12). Education Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct deposit of pay is required.
