Role Summary/Purpose:

The AVP, Competitive Intelligence will partner with the VP, Competitive Intelligence Leader and third-party suppliers to collect and curate intelligence on the ever-changing and fast paced credit card and financial technology market, competitors therein and deliver actionable insights to support Synchronys growth initiatives, sales, strategy, and marketing efforts.

This role will focus on identifying market gaps, strengths and opportunity areas for growth. This individual will partner closely with stakeholders across various functional groups such as Marketing, Sales, Strategy, Business Development, and Consumer Engagement & Brand.

This role requires the ability to recognize the patterns and insights that others miss, turning them into actionable insights and strategies for stakeholders. The individual who fills this role must possess a strong mix of self-motivation, curiosity, analytical rigor, big picture/macro thinking, and strong project management skills. This person must be a team player with a passion for learning and studying industry trends and emerging technologies.

Essential Responsibilities:

Manage both recurring and ad-hoc projects supporting internal teams and partners, including:

Assessing business needs and determining best approaches and methodologies to uncover insights

Selecting and managing external suppliers

Ensuring project objectives are well defined and actionable

Monitoring suppliers fieldwork progress and timelines while providing key feedback which aligns with Synchronys strategic goals

Creating and delivering key data points and findings to all relevant stakeholders

Produce and deliver proactive competitive insights across multiple channels (both verbal and written) to ensure that leaders in sales and growth are prepared to combat all competitive threats

Identify global trends and industry shifts that may affect Synchrony and its partners

Support all of Synchronys business platforms with competitive benchmarking and recurring analysis of competitive developments

Ensure that key business leaders are aware of competitive marketing dynamic and changes to product capabilities, value propositions, and customer experience

Work closely within the Market Insights team to ensure that consumer research is aligned with the current and anticipated competitive landscape

Perform other duties and/or market insights projects as needed

Qualifications/Requirements

Bachelors degree; OR in lieu of degree, high school diploma and 6 years progressive professional work experience in market research or competitive intelligence.

3 years of relevant experience in market research, consumer insights or competitive intelligence roles.

Ability to travel as needed up to (~5-10%)

Desired Characteristics

Advanced knowledge of financial services and/or credit card business models, trends and marketplace dynamics

High intellectual curiosity with the ability to analyze and synthesize qualitative and quantitative information and effectively generate actionable insights and recommendations

Critical, independent thinker able to understand and respond to complex questions from clients to aid in the development of research plans.

Strong analytical and interdisciplinary skills, with the ability to work harmoniously and effectively across cross-functional teams

Excellent verbal presentation skills with comfort and experience presenting to senior leaders

Successful history of executing and analyzing research and/or competitive intelligence projects.

Successfully manages time and multiple competing priorities to ensure deadlines are always met.

Strong project management experience with a record of delivering on time and with excellence in quality

Advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills and experience working with Tableau, Intelligence Platforms, and AI tools

Grade/Level: 11

The salary range for this position is 110,000.00 – 185,000.00 USD Annual and is eligible for an annual bonus based on individual and company performance.

Actual compensation offered within the posted salary range will be based upon work experience, skill level or knowledge.

Salaries are adjusted according to market in CA, NY Metro and Seattle.

Eligibility Requirements:

You must be 18 years or older

You must have a high school diploma or equivalent

You must be willing to take a drug test, submit to a background investigation and submit fingerprints as part of the onboarding process

You must be able to satisfy the requirements of Section 19 of the Federal Deposit Insurance Act.

New hires (Level 4-7) must have 9 months of continuous service with the company before they are eligible to post on other roles. Once this new hire time in position requirement is met, the associate will have a minimum 6 months time in position before they can post for future non-exempt roles. Employees, level 8 or greater, must have at least 18 months time in position before they can post. All internal employees must consistently meet performance expectations and have approval from your manager to post (or the approval of your manager and HR if you dont meet the time in position or performance expectations).
