Reports to the Engineering Fellow, Director or Vice President and leads and/or supports LSM/VIP projects as well as identifies and develops internal areas of opportunity with Process Excellence tools in order to reduce the cost of manufacturing the products and continue with the culture of continuous improvements for Cordis. Support the business as a product steward, in terms of regulatory support, tenders support, and other materials-related issues across the organization.
Responsibilities
Leads LSM and VIP projects.
Supervise material tests.
Identifies, designs and develops the necessary process and/or equipment.
Studies the processes to implement improvements.
Responsible for the preparation and handling of material specifications and related receiving inspection reports.
Assists technicians and engineers with production problems.
Supervises the execution of process / product validation activities.
Responsible for communicating business related issues or opportunities to next management level.
Applies working knowledge in the application of concepts, principles, and technical capabilities to perform varied tasks.
Works on projects of higher difficulty in scope and complexity.
Identifies solutions to a variety of technical problems and resolves them.
Applies technical judgment within defined parameters.
Receives general guidance and instruction on new projects.
Work will be reviewed for sound reasoning and accuracy.
Manages projects associated with materials formulations, new materials, facility upgrades, and design and installation of new production and material handling equipment, process improvements, cost containments, yield improvements, and scrap reduction.
Develops fellow engineers and technicians as strong contributing members of extended product development teams and promotes design manufacturability and other relevant industrial manufacturing or operational philosophies.
Ensures and/or refines the cost estimating process in manufacturing engineering.
Oversees the development and justification of capital expenditures, as needed.
Provides forecasts for the development and coordinate major material projects.
Works with Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) practices and ensures that all EHS resources needed to do so are available and in good condition.
Responsible for complying with the companys procedures and policies and with all Local,State and Federal Laws and Regulations.
Complies with the procedures of Quality, Laws and Regulations to the applicable markets.
Coordinate and review the work of technicians and engineers.
Is responsible for the communication of issues and opportunities related to the business at the next level of management.
Performs other assigned tasks, as needed.
Qualifications
Engineering and/or any specialty
Bachelor’s degree in engineering with 15 years or more of experience
Master’s degree in engineering with over 10 years of engineering experience is preferred.
PhD in Engineering or Chemistry., with 5 years or more experience.
Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
Knowledge of MS Suite – MSWord, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Enovia, JDE, etc.
Knowledge of DOEs, materials processing, polymers, lab testing equipment, lab tests, etc. would be assets.
Will be required to work in clean room, near or with heavy machinery, ability to lift heavy objects i.e., 50 lb bag of resin), ability to wear protective gear in lab, etc.
