Summary This position is located at the Bay Pines National Cemetery in Bay Pines, Florida. Responsibilities This is a bargaining unit position. This position is represented by AFGE. Please note that as provided for in the AFGE/VA Master Agreement the FIRST area of consideration for this position will be permanent employees of the local facility in which this position is being filled, the SECOND area of consideration will be employees at other VA facilities, and the THIRD area of consideration will be all other eligibles. The incumbent performs a variety of tasks involved in the upkeep of buildings, grounds, and related structures, fixtures, and utilities as well as preventive and routine maintenance on cemetery equipment. The incumbent facilitates assessments, inspections, maintenance and/or repairs of buildings, structures, utilities, and other facilities. Ensures that facilities, roads, sidewalks, and other structural areas are consistently maintained and in good condition. Trades performed include, but not limited to building maintenance, construction, fabrication, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, fencing, sheet metal, masonry, concrete, painting, and HVAC (minor repairs and tests). Perform duties utilizing hand tools, power tools, best practices and is required to operate a variety is small and heavy equipment. Plans and carries out work assignments according to preventative maintenance schedules by maintaining individual records, entering dates of spot-checks, conditions observed and deficiencies. Responsible for maintaining a supply inventory to ensure operational readiness for the facility. Prepares detailed estimates for repairs of deficiencies, projects, work and maintain work order records. Maintains area of responsibility and performs duties in a manner that remains in compliance with work measurement standards, and as provided by supervisors. Work schedule: May be required to work Monday through Friday to include occasional weekends. Due to the mission of the National Cemetery, the cemetery cannot be closed for more than 2 consecutive days at any given time. Additionally, when a Federal holiday falls on a Monday or Friday, staff may be required to work on that holiday or a Saturday. All staff is required to work Memorial Day each year. Staff will be required to work overtime, weekends and holidays when necessary to meet the needs of the cemetery. Occasionally staff may be called back to the facility to perform emergency overtime work. Your background must demonstrate work involved in the full range of building and maintenance trades to include carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, masonry, pest control, asphalt repairs, etc. This includes repair and preventive maintenance of HVAC systems (minor repairs and tests), maintaining and repairing buildings and physical structures, facilities, and utilities using hand and power tools. Qualifying experience should include skill and experience in two or more of the trades covered by this position. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Physical Requirements: This position requires the employee to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. May operate machinery that causes noise and vibrations, emits carbon monoxide, has moving parts that may cut or harm the body and requires the use of safety protective clothing and devices. This work may be performed over uneven terrain. The work requires prolonged and frequent walking, standing, pushing, lifting, bending, stooping, pulling, and ladder climbing. Must have a full range of upper and lower extremities. Must be able to walk in all types of terrain and soil condition. Occasionally lifts items weighing 50 pounds or more when loading and unloading supplies and equipment. Lifts or moves heavier items with assistance. Stamina, dexterity, and perseverance required in all aspects of the required duties. Working Conditions: Work is performed indoors and outdoors in all types of weather ranging from extreme heat to extreme cold, as well as windy and rainy weather conditions. Is subject to possible physical injury from operating equipment and from handling heavy items. Make repairs or installations from ladders or platforms or where the work is in hard-to-reach locations. At times, will be exposed to dirt, dust, mud, water, noise, and fumes from motor vehicles, working environment, and other equipment. Required to wear personal protective equipment when appropriate. Protective equipment includes personal protection for the eyes, hearing, face, head, back, extremities, protective clothing, respiratory devices and protective shields and barriers. This equipment will be maintained in a sanitary and reliable condition. Selected applicants will be required to complete an online onboarding process.
