General Summary:
General Summary
This position requires a balance of technical, data and analytical expertise. This role is responsible for overseeing a team in the building of data sources, data pipelines and the application of a broad array of analytics tools and predictive models to deliver data driven insights; and, then translating these insights into business value.
This is a leadership position that requires strong partnerships across key business areas to advance the use of analytics. This position is expected to contribute in implementation and provide technical oversight and leadership in the creation of data assets and analytics processes.
This position requires the ability to lead a data and analytics team in real business applications; the individual will be a critical bridge between data and analytics development and business partners to help optimize business performance.
This is a hybrid position that requires a minimum of 3 onsite days per week.
Locations: Atlanta (Sandy Springs), GA, Chattanooga TN, Columbia, SC, or Portland, ME.
Job Specifications
Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Mathematics, or Statistics preferred.
A minimum of 5 years hands-on experience acting as a Data Engineer, BI Analyst or Data Scientist. Based on specific team composition and goals one discipline may carry more weight than the others.
Prior leadership and/or management experience preferred.
Experience with analytics programming languages (SQL/R/Python)
Experience with modern BI toolsets (Tableau, Alteryx, PowerBI, or equivalent)
In-depth understanding of data profiling, statistical analysis and data modeling concepts
Adept in extracting, loading and leveraging data in data warehouse, transactional databases, object stores & API based environments
Data Architecture and Infrastructure: Good understanding of data architecture principles and related infrastructure requirements, covering on-prem and Cloud platforms.
Strong problem solving, programming and project management skills.
Excellent ability to interpret or correlate an extensive variety of information and decompose complex analytical and technical problems and translate them into simple business solutions to be presented to key stakeholders.
Ability to think conceptually, handle ambiguity, solve complex problems and make thoughtful recommendations.
Excellent communications skills and abilities working with all corporate levels and external contacts.
Demonstrated mentoring/coaching skills developing technical implementation employees
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Will oversee the execution of a teams analytics strategy. Guiding their team on the usage of tools, methodologies and ensuring their team is tracking towards goals and project deadlines.
Oversee the implementation of best practices in support of data & analytics projects to drive consistency and standardization of data usage and analytics practices.
Responsible for recruiting, training, performance management, coaching, development and retention of staff within their team.
Oversees the construction of predictive models, data pipelines and analytics workflows in the support of operational and analytics objectives. Will also meaningfully contribute to the development of these assets as necessary.
Work with partners to translate business needs into a technical plan, identify available data, communicate findings and results, and develop implementation tactics. Provides consulting support to business areas around conformance to corporate policies/procedures and controls, compliance as needed.
Understand theory and application of current and emerging analysis methods and data tooling to drive and recommend continuous improvement opportunities.
Identify internal and external data sources, construct analytical databases and develop data pipelines that enhance business performance.
Discuss data transformation, integration, and reporting requirements with both technical and non-technical audiences.
Will oversee the mentoring and training of team members on the usage of statistical methods, tools and development of data assets.
Perform other related duties as assigned.

The base salary range for applicants for this position is listed below. Unless actual salary is indicated above in the job description, actual pay will be based on skill, geographical location and experience.
$98,340.00-$201,900.00
Additionally, Unum offers a portfolio of benefits and rewards that are competitive and comprehensive including healthcare benefits (health, vision, dental), insurance benefits (short & long-term disability), performance-based incentive plans, paid time off, and a 401(k) retirement plan with an employer match up to 5% and an additional 4.5% contribution whether you contribute to the plan or not. All benefits are subject to the terms and conditions of individual Plans.
