Quality – Field Associate Chemist

The Coil Quality Excellence Team is seeking an Associate Chemist to support Coils customer facing claims investigations team. The successful candidate will report to the Quality Excellence Claims Manager and assist with sample testing, data entry, and claim investigations.
Job duties include contact with other employees and access confidential and proprietary information and/or other items of value, and such access may be supervised or unsupervised. The Company therefore has determined that a review of criminal history is necessary to protect the business and its operations and reputation and is necessary to protect the safety of the Companys staff, employees, and business relationships.
- Assist Claims Manager with creating entries and uploading pertinent documents into the claims database with a focus on preservation of records.
- Conduct quality testing in compliance with ASTM methods, internal test methods, work instructions, and product data sheets to determine if the coating is applied according to specifications. Test methods include:
- Dry Film Thickness (DJH, Tooke Gauge, Fischerscope, Weigh Strip Weigh, & SpecMetrix)
- Solvent Resistance (MEK Rubs – Hand and Machine)
- Fabrication (T-Bends)
- Reverse Impact
- Pencil Hardness
- Color
- Gloss
- Chalk
- Provide written reports to the Claims Manager that outline your observations and results from sample testing and/or site inspections.
- Communicate frequently with Claims Manager, Sales Reps, lab personnel, Technical Service Reps, Coil Leadership, and external customers to obtain pertinent information and relay your inspection results.
- Travel overnight within the US and Canada to participate in field claim investigations when required.
- Assist lab personnel and Quality Excellence group on special projects as necessary.
- Provide support with ISO requirements and calibration/equipment needs.
- Analyzes data, begins to draw conclusions, and make recommendations.
- Other duties as needed
- Recognizes problems and implements corrective actions to resolve the issue.
- Occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to climb ladders and comfortably work at heights
- Occasional work in temperatures that exceed 100F is required (Ex: Roof inspections or customer visits)
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Must be legally authorized to work in the country for which you are applying for employment (without now or in the future needing sponsorship for employment work visa and/or permanent residence status).
Bachelors degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math field.
Strong communication skills (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills
Excellent organization and planning skills
Proven problem-solving / decision-making ability
Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Powerpoint, Word, etc)
High level of attention to detail
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
2 or more years in a lab experience
Previous Quality or R&D experience in coatings or similar industry.
Experience with Design for Six Sigma, and Voice of the Customer
Travel Requirements: Up to 40% Domestic and International
