Physical Therapy Aide

Carries out departmental duties and treatment programs that are delegated for adolescent, adult and geriatric patients. Informs Department Manager or Senior Therapist of any equipment malfunctions or perceived safety hazards.

Responsibilities: ​

Cleans, maintains and stocks supplies: maintains a clean gym area and treatment rooms.

Assists with care of patient under the direct supervision and direction of the Physical or Occupational Therapist or Physical Therapy Assistant or Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant.

Informs Therapist of any ill response by the patient and maintains patient confidentiality and modesty at all times.

May assist in directing volunteers.

Transports patients to and from Physical and Occupational Departments.

Ensures safety of self and patient when transporting / transferring patients.

Other duties as assigned.

Education:

High School Diploma or GED required.

Certifications:

None required.

Complexity of Work:

Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.

Must be able to work in a stressful environment, take appropriate action and accurately perform multiple tasks simultaneously and meet multiple demands.

Work Experience:

Health care experience preferred.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to walk and climb stairs without assistive device and to maintain balance despite sudden load in order to support patient from falling.

Ability to meet physical demands characterized at the heavy level defined by 1993 Leonard Matheson and Ministry of Labor.

Ability to lift and reach with arms sufficiently to lift patients arm and leg during therapeutic treatment program.

Sensation of touch and manual dexterity to be able to palpate muscle tension or to monitor patient pulse.

Visual acuity to observe patients gross and fine motor movements in order to analyze these movements and to read all patient monitors.

Ability to speak clearly enough to instruct patients and families.

Ability to hear at a conversational level to understand patients description of symptoms and response to treatment.

Personal Protective Equipment:

Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
