Job Description Summary
The Thermal System Design Engineer will report to the GE Aerospace Thermal Design & Secondary Flows Sub-Section Manager within the Engineering Sciences organization. In this role you will conduct thermal design, analysis, and test definition tasks in support of new technology introduction engine programs. You will utilize heat transfer and fluid mechanics analysis tools along with established design principles to propose thermal systems that meet program requirements. Potential applications include complex fluid delivery systems and sealing systems throughout engine.
Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities:
Execute with direct guidance the analysis, design, and integration of fluid systems to meet business standards, established procedures, and program requirements.
With guidance, perform thermal assessments using finite element analysis (FEA) and internally developed flow solvers.
Collaborate with large multifunctional engineering design teams; Work with immediate team leads to align personal priorities with needs of the larger team.
Execute steps required to resolve design issues using established procedures. Consult with supervisor and senior team members to verify results and conclusions.
Clearly communicate design study results and recommendations to technical experts and program leadership.
Support preparation of invention disclosures for technology that provides a competitive advantage.
Assure proper documentation of technical data consistent with engineering policies.
Qualifications/Requirements:
Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited university or college in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related discipline with an emphasis on heat transfer and design of fluid flow systems
Desired Characteristics:
Advanced degree from an accredited university or college in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related discipline with an emphasis on heat transfer and design of fluid flow systems.
2 years of technical experience in heat transfer and design of fluid flow systems
Familiarity with the fundamentals of heat transfer and compressible flow prediction
Familiarity with gas turbine engine fundamentals.
Ability to plan, execute, and document engineering activities.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills; Shares critical information, speaks with candor, and contributes constructively.
Demonstrated ability to work independently.
Strong sense of ownership and an ability to analyze and resolve problems.
This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. If applicable, final offers will be contingent on ability to obtain authorization for access to U.S. export-controlled information from the U.S. Government.
