Patient Companion

Location: Chelsea, MI

Minimum pay rate: $15.40/hr based upon applicable on the job experience

Position Purpose:

The patient companion provides continuous observation and monitoring of assigned patients. Notifies nursing staff if the patient requires assistance, control or other nursing intervention. Knowledgeable and supportive of patients, the confidentiality of HIPAA protected information, and other related hospital policies.

Training is provided to prepare our colleagues for success. Our patient companions receive information from the assigned nurse regarding the patient’s anticipated behavior when arriving on the unit. Remains with and observes the assigned patient (s) at all times. Patient must be in direct observation at all times and never left unattended. Immediately alerts nursing staff if the patient requires assistance, exhibits unusual behavior or other nursing interventions.

As a patient companion you would have the opportunity to float to the following units:

Atrium East (Med/Surg)

Atrium or Courtyard Rehab (Inpatient Rehabilitation)

Courtyard East (Short Stay and Head Pain)

Emergency

Intensive Care Unit

Shift Available: Varying – 7am-3:30pm, 3pm-11:30pm, 11pm-7:30am

Status Available: contingent (minimum of three shifts per month with at least one shift being on the weekend)

Required Qualifications

Minimum of a High school diploma.

Ability to maintain professionalism and self-control in difficult or stressful conditions. Ability to maintain attention for long periods of time.
