90 Farmworkers/Nursery/Greenhouse. Workers may be required to harvest bulb, perennial, and annual crops from indoor and outdoor growing areas. Workers may be required to fill pots/trays with soil or starter using a pot or tray filling machine, place filled pots or trays on belt or rack, plant bulbs according to placement specifications, plant liners or plugs according to placement specifications, stick cuttings into pots or trays of starter, use sequence label applicator, and scan or tag product on belts or racks. Workers may be required to spray insecticide or weed killer or other chemicals, mix chemicals, water plants, pull weeds, cut grass, cut hedges and bushes, load product on trucks, sweep, wash floors, paint, empty trash barrels, and clean. Workers may be required to unload plants/flower or other materials from trucks and trailers, do product verification, work on cut flower lines, distribute products for delivery, deliver product, paint racks, assemble racks, assemble plants on racks or in cartons, perform
maintenance on equipment and racks, maintain/fix hanging basket lines, scan product, update computer records, print computer records, assemble wooden pallets, and assist with counting or moving of
supplies. Workers who are properly licensed may work as a switcher driver on site.
– The worker will walk down the aisles between the plants in the corn fields for the purpose of detasseling seed corn, remove rogue plants, weeds and volunteer corn plants from seed corn production fields.
– Workers will hand harvest asparagus. Asparagus plants can grow 3-10 inches per day, and during growing season, the field needs to be picked daily. In an asparagus field, the workers will sit in a bent position while riding on a specially designed picking cart, while one of the pickers is designated as the “driver” of the picking cart in which they pick asparagus in their row while steering the cart.
Work will occur in Kent County, Michigan.
