Overview
The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services, Child Support Services (CSS) has a wonderful opportunity as a Clerk Specialist in Carroll, Iowa. At CSS we help the families of Iowa successfully navigate and understand the importance of providing both financial and emotional support for their children. Hours, Work Location and Requirements
This is a full-time opportunity, working Monday – Friday from 8:00am – 4:30pm. After successfully completing the training period, with supervisor approval, this position may work a hybrid schedule from the office and from home. Our office is located at 625 N West St, Carroll, IA 51401.
Job Duties
The CSS Clerk Specialist is a vital role in supporting our clients needs and assisting with office duties. Typical daily job duties include:
Provide administrative support and complete duties for specialized technical child support casework.
Comprehend and apply complex instructions, including federal, state, and local laws, policies and procedures specific to child support.
Proficiently use Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and Outlook and navigation in a Windows environment.
Use a calculator to produce extremely accurate mathematical calculations.
Independently manage and prioritize assigned case work to meet performance goals and multiple deadlines.
Utilize and follow existing processes and work collaboratively with the team.
Accurately enter, retrieve, file, and generate case folders using various data base systems including ICAR.
Sort and scan physical mail and index and retrieve electronic mail.
Interact with respect and professionalism with clients, community partners, attorneys, sheriffs, and various individuals with differing needs.
Maintain strict adherence to confidentiality provisions outlined in the Code of Iowa
Adapt to changing situations and work pressures while maintaining composure
Additional Requirements
This position requires occasional travel. A valid drivers license is required to utilize our state vehicles that may be used for travel outside of the office as needed.
Successfully complete and pass a comprehensive criminal and IRS background check, including fingerprinting.

Minimum Qualification Requirements
Experience equal to three years of full-time clerical or closely related work;
OR
an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting graduation from high school, G.E.D. equivalency or satisfactory completion of a recognized correspondence or formal job-related training course at the high school or equivalent level such as that offered by WIN, OEO, CEP, CIVEC or similar programs, for one year only of the required experience;
OR
an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting nine months or thirty semester hours coursework in an accredited business school, college or university for each year of the required experience;
OR
certification from the State of Iowa Administrative Assistant Certificate Program will substitute for six months of the required experience;
OR
employees with current continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes the equivalent of eighteen months of full time experience as a resident treatment worker or Clerk–Advanced.
