Location Description Post Consumer Brands corporate headquarters in Lakeville, Minn. is about 20 miles south of Minneapolis and St. Paul, Lakeville has all the benefits of smaller town living with access to everything a large metropolitan area has to offer. Responsibilities This person will lead a team of process development engineers and site scientists responsible for new and existing dog and cat food, treat and snack product innovation, renovation and business support. Prioritizes and manages process development team activities and leads cross-functional initiatives resulting in meeting PCB’s cost, quality and innovation objectives. Acts as key R&D business partner for Cross-Functional Teams. Partners with commercialization team and leads technical aspect of stage gate process. Responsible for completing job duties in a manner that supports all personnel safety, food safety, quality, and environmental practices. This position is located at our Corporate Campus in Lakeville, MN offering hybrid flexibility, when not traveling. JOB ACTIVITIES/DUTIES Manage and provide direction to staff of site scientists and engineers to achieve annual goals. Provide technical guidance and work direction in the development of new products/processes and improvements to existing products/processes in the areas of innovation, cost savings and quality. Ensure the process development team activities meet company cost, capacity, quality, marketing and product development requirements. Manage and prioritize team activities including supervision of staff resources, project/product assignments; monitoring results, and taking corrective action when necessary. Communicate and work with staff to ensure successful job performance and meet stated expectations. Aid in development of staff and conduct annual formal performance reviews. R&D representative on Cross-Functional Teams. Leads R&D Cost Out, Renovation and Innovation programs. Partner closely with Marketing, Procurement, Finance, Operations and others to develop team priorities. Ensure the process development team and site scientists partner and work effectively with other technical functions including, but not limited to products research, product development, packaging, QFS, Operation, etc. Provide technical expertise and serve as a resource to the company in areas including, but not limited to process development, product transformation flow sheets, extrusion, retort, ingredient functionality, and ingredient-in-equipment interactions, reactions, statistical process control and predicted outcomes. Monitor developments outside the company including, but not limited to, new processing and manufacturing technologies, new ideas/concepts, competitive activity, new product/ technology introductions, contract manufacturer capability, consumer and customer feedback. Provide technical support to operations to continuously reduce cost of goods and improve quality. Owns commissioning and oversees startups of all new product introductions and renovations to assure they meet project and timeline expectations. Carry out all company programs, policies, and procedures. Partner with commercialization and R&D leadership to provide coaching and training to technical project leaders and manage technical deliverables to the stage gate process. Qualifications Education: BS/MS in Chemical Engineering or related engineering field. Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in the food industry in process development, engineering or improvement roles. Broad, successful experience in bringing many different types of new unique products/processes to market – scale-up and commercialization. Expertise in process optimization, product formulation, statistical process control, and quality improvements. Experience working in a production facility required. Experience in pet food manufacturing, extrusion and/or retort preferred. Experience managing technical scientists and/or engineers. Able to provide quick technical direction and guidance to product and process developers on many different projects simultaneously. Skills: Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work autonomously, keep management informed and know when to escalate decision making to leadership. Able to foresee technical issues with new product development well in advance to effectively determine the right solutions to keep projects on time and at budget. Ability to organize and interact, support, facilitate and lead multi-functional work teams. Ability to manage people, develop employee careers and provide work direction to assigned resources. Ability to lead team to a consensus; strong negotiation and influencing skills. Ability to manage multiple projects, in a fast-paced environment, meeting deadlines, and communicating status. Demonstrated problem-solving skills. Proven innovation and creativity. Experience using statistical methods and design of experiments. Other Requirements: Travel up to 25% domestic and some international. Ability to lift 25 kg.
