We are excited to announce a new opportunity within our Optum Life Sciences team for the role of Business Development Associate . As a key member of our dynamic team, you will play a vital role in building the pipeline for our Optum Life Sciences sales team.
Your primary responsibilities will include generating new pipeline for your territory within the Life sciences marketplace for Pharmaceutical, biotech, medical device, and other related fields. This candidate will also collaborate with internal stakeholders to influence existing pipeline, ensuring seamless coordination, and assisting in executing campaign outreach strategies. This encompasses participation in conferences, events, webinars, and other marketing and sales efforts to help qualify new leads and opportunities as well as support meeting coordination.

This position is full – time (40 hours / week) Monday – Friday. Employees are required to have flexibility to work any of our 8-hour shift schedules during our normal business hours of 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM local time. It may be necessary, given the business need, to work occasional overtime.
We offer up to 3 – 6 months of on-the-job training. The hours of the training will be 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM local time from Monday – Friday. Training will be conducted virtually from your home.
Primary Responsibilities:
Prospecting and Lead Generation:
Identify and research potential clients and key decision – makers within the life sciences industry.
Generate new business leads through various channels, including cold calls, email campaigns, and networking events such conferences and tradeshows, webinars or otherwise.
Client Engagement:
Build and maintain strong relationships with prospective clients to understand their needs and pain points.
Effectively communicate Optum Life Sciences value proposition and solutions to potential clients.
Solution Presentation:
Conduct product presentations and demonstrations to showcase our Data solutions.
Tailor presentations to align with the unique needs of each prospect.
Collaboration:
Collaborate with the Sales team to develop and execute strategic sales plans.
Work closely with cross – functional teams to develop outreach campaigns, segmentation, and lead development.
Pipeline Management:
Manage and update the sales pipeline to ensure accurate tracking of leads and opportunities.
Provide regular reports on sales activity and progress toward targets.
Market Research:
Stay informed about industry trends, competitors, and emerging opportunities.
Share insights and market feedback with the team to inform product development and strategy. Maintenance of existing product portfolio, including evaluation of the need for changes, sunsetting, re – packaging, etc.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree (or higher) in Business, Marketing, Life Sciences, or a related field
2 years of experience in business development or a related field
Intermediate proficiency in using CRM software and sales tools (preferred in Salesforce)
Ability to work any 8-hour shift between the hours of 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM local time from Monday – Friday including the flexibility to work occasional overtime based on business need
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in a business development OR sales role, preferably within the life sciences OR healthcare sector
Ability to travel up to 20% of the time
Experience with Marketing Automation Tools
Experience with Segmentation Tools
Experience with Salesforce
Understanding of the healthcare landscape and industry trends
Telecommuting Requirements:
Ability to keep all company sensitive documents secure (if applicable)
Required to have a dedicated work area established that is separated from other living areas and provides information privacy
Must live in a location that can receive a UnitedHealth Group approved high-speed internet connection or leverage an existing high-speed internet service
Soft Skills:
Exceptional communication, presentation, and negotiation skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
Goal – oriented and motivated to achieve and exceed sales targets

California, Colorado, Nevada, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Hawaii, Washington, or Washington D.C Residents Only : The salary range for California, Colorado, Nevada, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Hawaii, Washington, or Washington D.C residents is $70,200 to $137,800 per year. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
