Overview
We at Fairview Health Services are looking for a dedicated Psychiatric Assistant to join our team at the University of Minnesota Emergency Department! This position is in the University of MN Medical Center (West Bank) Minneapolis Emergency.
As a member of the interdependent care team led by a designated Registered Nurse. Individuals in this role are responsible for assisting the nursing staff in maintaining a safe and healing environment in the inpatient setting. The Psychiatric Associate responds to patient needs, supplies to efficient unit operations and observes patients as delegated by, and under the supervision of, the Registered Nurse.
This role is approved for 60 hours, every two weeks on the evening shift, working 12-hour shifts and every third weekend with a variable schedule. This position is benefit eligible. Responsibilities Job Description
The Psych Associate is responsible for the delivery of patient care, and promotion of a therapeutic environment as delegated by and under the supervision of the RN so that the goals and objectives of treatment are achieved on each unit as assigned.
Maintains safety of patient and staff by conducting the following as assigned:
Conducts safety checks of patients through visual observation and documentation.
Conducts room, belonging and unit searches.
Responds and participates in de-escalation of patient including physical intervention as trained.
Actively participates in milieu management with treatment team collaboration.
Performs basic patient daily living routines and procedures according to treatment plan:
Demonstrates knowledge of signs/symptoms of diagnoses and interventions.
Conducts educational programming with individual and/or patient groups according to appropriate treatment plan.
Responds to emergency situations as trained per policy.
Participates in the treatment team’s mission, goals and plans:
Acts as a member of the multi-disciplinary therapeutic team.
Exhibits verbal communication in a timely, detailed, and professional manner.
Possesses knowledge of current issues, changes and updates in Behavioral Services policies and procedures.

Bachelor’s Degree
Basic Life Support Certification
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology or Human Services Field
Experience working in the mental health fie
