Head of SBA Lending

The SBA Department Manager directly oversee and manages a team of loan officers, credit underwriters and loan administrators/closers. The position reports to EVP/Market President – responsible for originating, closing, selling and servicing SBA loans in the Bank’s lending area.

The SBA Manager is responsible for generating fee income: through the sale of the guaranteed position of the SBA loan in secondary market, through servicing income and interest income.

Responsibilities:

Lead the team evaluating customer creditworthiness, logically and prudently structure loan deals, and qualify applicants for approval

Ensure all loan requests meet SBA eligibility standards and comply with the SOP prior to the issuance of an LOI. And are processed within agreed upon timeframes and meet credit policy and SBA standards

Conduct regular sales meetings with the lending team to review sales activity and the loan pipeline. Ensure timely submission, approval, and closing of deals

Identify and develop needs of loan officers; develop loan officer credit and sales skills through appropriate and timely performance management. Provide coaching and determine training needs for lending division and schedule appropriate training as needed. Define and communicate annual goals to loan officers

Ensures SBA Portfolio retains its eligibility status to ensure Bank retains the guaranty in the event of a loss. Serves as the main resource for Government Guaranteed loans—answers questions from Lenders and Credit Administration on SBA Eligibility/Program details; provides training for Bank employees to enhance knowledge of the various lending programs; research technical questions.

SBA Problem Loans/Payment Deferrals/Liquidations, etc.—coordinates workout plans for SBA Problem Loans with input and direction from Credit Administration; provides direction on payment deferrals to make sure any deferrals are administered in compliance with SBA/USDA guidelines; works with Special Assets and Loan Ops. For loans in liquidations to ensure that actions comply with Government Guaranteed procedures and ensure no loss of guaranty occurs.

Develops and maintains policy and procedures for the Department, ensuring continued compliance as regulations and the SOP changes over time.

Coordinates annual loan reviews and property inspections—assigns annual loan reviews and monitors for timely completion; coordinates to ensure annual property inspections are completed in a timely manner.

Acts as Lead Person and main contact for SBA Loan Reviews and Regulatory Exams—coordinates with IT to provide access to loan files; answers regulatory questions; and consults with Loan OPs when appropriate.

Keeps current with SBA changes and communicates to appropriate staff. Works with Lenders and COI’s and Brokers to make sure loans are eligible under the SBA Program—reviews pre-flights for SBA eligibility and reviews finished Credit Authorizations for SBA Eligibility as part of the Bank’s Loan Approval Process.
