This position will deliver established Agriculture in the Classroom curriculum with the aim of fostering awareness, understanding, and appreciation of how we produce food and fiber, what we eat, and how we live by helping teachers, students, and their communities learn about and engage with agriculture and food systems. The individual will deliver established curriculum to help youth understand the connections between agriculture, the environment, and people. The educator will assist with the planning and evaluation of the delivery of established educational program goals. This person will interact with the public through classroom presentations and assist their Supervisor with activities to foster the program with community leaders. The individual will assist 4-H staff with summer programing as necessary. This person will appreciate and promote diversity in all interactions with program participants, staff, volunteers, and the public.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in related field or Associate Degree plus 2 years transferrable program/functional experience.

Experience relevant to the role of this position.

Ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position.

Ability to work flexible hours which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications:

Ability to communicate effectively through oral, written, and visual channels using traditional educational tools and methods.

Ability to present effective and relevant educational lessons to target audiences in group settings.

Ability to carry supplies and equipment with or without reasonable accommodation.

Experience with diverse populations.

Position Responsibilities and Essential Functions

Program Delivery – 80%

Select and prepare lessons plans and provide educational programming to targeted audiences based on established Agriculture in the Classroom subject matter and existing research-based curriculum.

Deliver creative educational programs, based on existing materials, to impact audiences through a variety of delivery methods, with support from supervisor.

Provide educational programs to students in traditional classroom settings at local public and private schools.

Provide educational programs to youth in non-traditional settings, such as home-school groups and summer recreation programs.

Serve as a subject matter resource for staff, volunteers, program participants, and other groups as they are identified.

Program Evaluation – 5%

Collect surveys for analysis of the program, looking for the strengths and weaknesses in order to provide feedback to supervisor to strengthen the programming.

Interact with program participants and schools to obtain their evaluation to share with Supervisor for program analysis.

Based on established program parameters, interpret evaluation data for funders.

Assist with the analysis of collected program evaluation data.

Assist in making recommendations for program improvement.

Administrative Direction – 5%

Provide input to Supervisor in planning the delivery of educational programming through a variety of methods.

Assist with planning the delivery of established educational program goals.

Assist Supervisor with identifying key relationships to build/sustain with community leaders and stakeholders.

Assist in identifying program needs with Supervisor, advisory committees, and program participants.

Administrative Coordination/Operation –5%

Provide routine/administrative tasks to support the delivery of established educational program goals; i.e. confirming events; gathering materials and resources for program delivery; and ensuring delivery to offsite program locations.

Maintain records of class participants, complete reports, and accurately collect and prepare paperwork as required for the program evaluation process.

Submit program related expense receipts and vouchers to Supervisor for approval.

In collaboration with Supervisor, complete necessary written documentation as required by program funders.

Professional Improvement – 5%

In cooperation with Supervisor and/or Executive Director, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes and Association priorities.

Participate in all required orientation, training, and/or in-service meetings and trainings as scheduled/required.

Pursue personal growth through expanding personal knowledge of the total organization and through updating techniques and technical skills relating to the position.

Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension including but not limited to attendance at staff meetings, timely reporting of expenses, working with other staff, general marketing of Cooperative Extension programs and other duties as assigned.

Maintain regular and predictable attendance and punctuality.

Support the Association to maintain a safe working environment.

Be familiar with and strive to follow any applicable federal, state, local regulations, Association health and safety policy/procedure/requirement and standard.

Act proactively to prevent accidents/injuries and communicate hazards to supervisors when identified.

Position Details

This is a part-time (32 hrs/week), benefits eligible, non-exempt position. Ability to arrange a 4 day work week. Compensation paid at $21.64 per hour.

This position is located at the CCE Chenango office in Norwich, NY. Will need reliable transportation to travel weekly to different Chenango County school districts to provide agricultural lessons.
