Orrick currently has an excellent opportunity for a Risk & Compliance Counsel – Training & Special Projects. This position could be based in any of our U.S. offices (Austin; Chicago; Boston; Houston; Los Angeles; New York; Menlo Park; Orange County; Portland; Sacramento; San Francisco; Santa Monica; Seattle; Washington DC; or Wheeling, WV) with consideration given for 100% remote US locations.
The Objective: As Risk & Compliance Counsel – Training & Special Projects, you will have senior in-house counsel responsibility for providing legal support to the NB&C Director and the NB&C function firm-wide, as well as the Office of General Counsel. You will assist with the successful training and professional development of the NB&C departments approximately 30 analysts and attorneys, as well as relevant firm-wide conflicts training.
What will I do? The Risk & Compliance Counsel – Training & Special Projects will support the Director in the administration of a department that delivers prompt and accurate evaluation and resolution of potential conflicts of interest, new business intake, and lateral attorney conflicts clearance and onboarding. You will collaborate with key Firm departments and members of Firm leadership to execute on the Firms new business and conflicts strategy.
How will I spend my time? You will spend most of your time on these responsibilities:

Responsibilities

NB&C and Firmwide Training
Oversee training of NB&C staff including managers, intake analysts, lateral analysts, and Risk & Compliance Counsel (RCC) to ensure that resources, trainings, and systems are aligned with the Firms goals and objectives, including an emphasis on fostering a team-oriented environment focused on the highest level of client service.
Assist with the development of processes, playbooks, and training materials. Take the lead in drafting and updating the same.
Work with Director and OGC to identify business and ethical risk within practice groups and develop practice-group specific training.
Monitor industry standards for new business and conflicts best practices and make recommendations to integrate such best practices as appropriate.
Draft and deliver firm-wide training and CLEs.
NB&C Onboarding and Professional Development
Develop and implement onboarding and integration program for new NB&C staff.
Manage professional development and learning opportunities for all members of the department.
Manage NB&C Quality Control Process
Develop, implement, and maintain a NB&C Quality Control process that ensures consistent conflicts analysis, treatment, reporting, and communication of potential issues.
Assist with the development, maintenance, and tracking of conflicts documentation that meets jurisdictional requirements.
Assist Orricks Practice Management Committee with the review and quality control of daily new matter reports.
International Conflicts Liaison
Work with risk management and compliance professionals, attorneys, and staff from international offices to achieve best conflicts resolution processes.
Assist with integration and performance of AML/KYC functions firm-wide
Maintenance of Non-Attorney and Other Positions
Work with OGC on secondment agreements, concurrent employment arrangements, and non-attorney fiduciary and director and officer positions.
Special Projects
Assist with evaluating conflicts in connection with strategic business and lateral opportunities.
