## General Definition of Work

Performs semiskilled work, assigning and participating in the care and cleaning of City buildings, facilities and grounds; does related work as required. Diagnose and recognize maintenance needs for City building electrical systems and lighting, to include street lighting, heating and air conditioning systems and city generators. Work is performed under limited supervision of a Civilian Unit Supervisor.

## Essential Functions/Typical Tasks

Scheduling, overseeing, and participating in building maintenance projects; maintaining records; purchasing equipments. Identify supply needs for police department personnel.

Oversees and participates, as needed, in the installation, maintenance, and repair of City buildings and facilities.

Plans for construction, renovation, repair and routine building maintenance and repair.

Orders issues and tracks necessary supplies and equipment for police and office staff. Maintain record of equipment ordered and issued to staff.

Orders necessary materials and supplies for staff to accomplish tasks for City events and disasters. May be required to work during City events and/or emergencies such as hurricane operations.

Responsible for the key inventory for all facilities and personnel.

Daily inspects City building and facilities for damage.

Coordinates repair and maintenance of facilities and grounds.

Coordinates the maintenance, repair, and cleanliness of City buildings.

Liaison for the cleaning personnel assigned to the facilities.

Conducts monthly safety inspections of facilities to include fire extinguishers security alarms, fire alarms and stairwell assistance alarms housed in the facilities.

Accompanies state inspectors throughout the facility for yearly required inspections i.e., fire system inspections, water pressure test, and elevator inspections.

Asset custodian for all city assets purchased over $5000,00.

Administers purchase accounts with vendors utilizing various purchasing methods.

Prepares Safety Data Sheets for all chemicals used.

Work with assigned committees across departments.

Preps facilities for Natural Disasters and coordinates food and lodging arrangements. May require work leading up to, during and after disaster events.

Performs related tasks as required.

## Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

General knowledge of building cleaning practices, supplies, and equipment and ability to use them economically and efficiently; ability to follow and understand oral and written directions; ability to read and write; physical ability to perform heavy manual work; ability to work independently. General knowledge of modern record keeping procedures and practices; general knowledge of departmental programs, policies, and procedures. Ability to perform a considerable volume of detailed record work; ability to maintain files; ability to type accurately and at a reasonable rate of speed; ability to operate general office and data entry equipment; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, contractors and the general public.

Education and Experience:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school to include some experience in general clerical work.

## Requirements

This is medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work requires climbing, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive inform tion at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for use of measuring devices, operation of machines, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, and hazards. The worker may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment.

Special Requirements:
Possession of an appropriate drivers license valid in the State of North Carolina.
