Summary:
Under the direction of the Vice President of Mission Services, the Pastoral Minister ministers to patients and families in regard to religious/spiritual beliefs. As an integral member of the multidisciplinary team, the Pastoral Minister provides spiritual and emotional support for patients, families and staff within the context of illness, suffering, loss, and death. Primary areas of responsibility include units such as Intensive Care, Emergency, Oncology, anti-partum at risk and neo-natal intensive care. Pastoral Ministers receive referrals, complete documentation including Spiritual Assessments as well as provide on-going ministry.
Responsibilities:
EDUCATION
Masters Degree in Pastoral Ministry or related field required
Two (2) units of Clinical Pastoral Education, preferred
Ecclesiastical Endorsements –
Must be in good standing to serve as a pastoral minister according to the code of ethics for spiritual care professionals and the standards of practice for professional chaplains. Should the pastoral minister characterize or hold themselves out to be a member of any religious clergy, he or she must be held as a member in good standing of same religious clergy or order at all times while employed at Catholic Health.
EXPERIENCE
Active, practicing Catholic preferred with pastoral experience marked by demonstrated grasp of both the complexity of health care as a business and the unique moral, ethical and social expectations placed on the health care provider who claims a Catholic identity
Well-formed in Catholic tradition, knowledge of Catholic theology and catholic social teaching
At least two (2) years of experience in one or more of the following are recommended: health care, education, mission or spiritual care
