Essential Job Functions

The Programming Coordinator assists with the planning of high quality events and programming and creates interactive exhibits to engage and enrich the lives of community members. Under the direct supervision of the Education and Programming Manager, and with an unwavering commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, the Programming Coordinator will:

1. Under the general direction of the department manager, lead the planning of and implementation of signature library events and programs.
– Serve as the main contact for booking agents and other vendors or presenters.
– Represent the library at programs.
– Collaborate with local organizations and foster public participation in event planning.
– Organize internal staff to participate in signature events and systemwide programming.
2. Help develop branch signature events. Communicate with staff about scheduling, and other necessary event topics.
3. Assist with planning and organizing systemwide librarys rotating interactive community exhibit space, the smART box. This includes creating an annual plan and schedule for the installations as well as the physical creation of the museum quality exhibits.
4. Coordinate special engagement areas, including Main Library exhibit spaces and other art installations. Develop an exhibit calendar, coordinate artists and vendors, and ensure high quality implementation. Lead committees to support these initiatives.
5. Participate in the set up and tear down of event spaces and layouts. Communicate frequently with the Facilities Department. Maintain an inventory of programming equipment and materials.
6. Evaluate signature program success. Track metrics for signature program attendance.
7. Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

– Bachelors degree from an accredited four year college or university.

– At least 1 year experience working with the public in museums or public libraries.

– Normal workweek is 40 hours.
– Evenings and weekends fas needed.

– Starting/Hiring Range:$17.99 – $21.59, Hourly
– Total Salary Range:$17.99 – $25.19, Hourly

Requirements

– Spanish language skills preferred.
– Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as strong organizational skills.
– Public service orientation and commitment to excellent and genuine customer service.
– Demonstration of character and integrity in all situations while upholding SJCPLs ethical standards.
– Experience working with and proficiency with computers, including Internet, Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and Windows and Mac OS and communication technologies.
– Knowledge of library materials and services appropriate for a variety of patrons.
– Physical agility and strength to bend, reach, lift, and move up to 50lbs. and to stand for long periods of time.
– Comfortable with public speaking.
