DUTIES:

Arrange student transportation and coordinate routes through the use of computerized routing system for 11 schools in district, special education programs, private and parochial schools, McKinney-Vento (homeless) students, and Dual Language program.

Re-evaluate all routes for routing efficiencies.

Coordinate and conduct meetings with drivers, bus aides, bus contractors, school principals and parents to resolve student incidents and parent concerns, bus issues and complaints.

Import all new students for the district, make changes for students on a daily basis, regarding address, bus stop, household corrections, building locations.

Oversee transportation for field trips, athletic trips, and shuttle buses.

Conduct mileage checks regarding district transportation limits as per the BOE policy to ensure students transportation needs are met.

Review driver abstracts for district employees to verify eligibility to transport students.

Review driver abstracts for contractor drivers and coach bus drivers to verify their eligibility to transport students.

Oversee bus maintenance, DOT inspection, repairs and bills.

Conduct information meetings regarding updated laws and regulations.

Conduct SED mandated two-hour Refresher classes twice a year

Conduct field inspections and observations of contract drivers to ensure that all drivers are in compliance with motor vehicle safety regulations.

Maintain all mechanical records school buses for inspection and repairs.

Conduct ride along with district drivers.

Arrange for coverage of bus aides that are absent from work.

Maintain all driver files for SED and DMV, including coordination of time frames for compliance of deadline submissions.

Update the map on VersaTrans with new homes, streets and building locations

Review and approve all transportation related bills (bus repairs, field trips, athletic and contractors’ monthly bills)

Prepare the transportation budget.

Approve Time Piece for staff attendance.

Attend meetings concerning transportation.

Set-up transportation for ESY and Summer Academy

Schedule bus drills for all eleven schools as per SED Requirements. (Fall – first 10 days of school; winter between Nov.1 – Dec. 31; Spring March 1 – April 31; and Summer Bus Drills

Schedule any change for BOCES students and locations

Road Test district drivers, do driver observations for district and contractor drivers.

Make observations at schools for loading, unloading, arriving and departure procedures

Job Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

OPEN COMPETITIVE

Either:

a) Graduation from a New York State or Regionally accredited college or university with an Associates Degree, and two (2) years of management experience in the operation, scheduling and maintenance of a bus transportation system; or,

b) Graduation from a standard senior high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma, and four (4) years of management experience in the operation, scheduling and maintenance of a bus transportation system.

NOTE : Additional experience will be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.
