Job Summary

As a Retail Manager, you will be an integral part of our ambitious team at Stony Brook University in Stony Brook, NY. This role is a golden opportunity for an upbeat, entrepreneurial manager who is constantly seeking innovative ways to conduct business. As a Retail Manager, you will coordinate the flawless operation of our retail/food services, ensuring outstanding customer happiness and efficient use of resources.

Our Retail Manager will be responsible for the successful retail/cafeteria operation of 2 Food & Retail Managers and will perform a variety of duties including the planning and supervision of special functions, the maintaining of cash controls and payroll records, and the hiring and training of our hourly team members. They also ensure customer satisfaction and good public relations through the safe and efficient use of resources.

Key Responsibilities:

Coordinate daily administrative and operational tasks of 2 on-campus convenience stores

Handle all aspects of staff management, including hiring, training, and scheduling

Manage all financials, including budget development, forecasting, and financial reporting

Maintain knowledge of the marketplace and current trends

Coordinate marketing efforts to increase revenues and resident happiness

Manage cost controls and expenditures for the account

Ensure sanitation and safety of assigned units

Purchase and manage inventory

Roll out new culinary programs in conjunction with our marketing and culinary teams

Act as the direct liaison with clients

Preferred Qualifications:

Culinary degree preferred, or A.A. Degree plus related experience

Three or more years of supervisory experience in retail food service operations

Knowledge of retail, food, and catering trends focusing on quality, production, sanitation, cost controls, and presentation

Strong leadership, management, and mentorship abilities

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Financial, budgetary, accounting, and computational skills

Proficient in Microsoft Office programs, e-mail, the Internet, and other necessary computer programs

ServSafe® Certified

Specific Responsibilities:

Provide timely, courteous service

Coordinate the day-to-day operations of two convenience stores on campus

Conduct weekly inventory counts, restock shelves, and order stock responsibly

Handle staffing for sites, including recruiting, hiring, training, and firing

Ensure the safety and security of sites, including staff training and enforcement

Lead merchandising, check-in deliveries, maintain shelves, and ensure a positive store environment

Review and handle reports, maintaining accountability for outcomes and procedures

Solve complex problems and handle uncertain variables

Work autonomously, self-directed, and motivate others in a fast-paced environment
