Summary Of Position
The Department of Chemical and Biological Sciences at YSU invites applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty position to begin August of 2025. The successful candidate is expected to develop a competitive research program in plant ecology at the population, community, or ecosystem level. The successful candidate is expected to be competitive for extramural funding, be dedicated to training undergraduate and masters degree graduate students, and have a strong commitment to teaching. This individual may bridge molecular biology or mathematics with ecology and evolutionary biology. We prefer a person whose research uses genomics, metabolomics, or mathematics to understand plant population, community, or ecosystem dynamics, but strongly encourage applications from those who employ other techniques to study plant ecology or evolution.
Primary responsibilities will be teaching courses in Plant Diversity, Field Botany, and upper division courses in their area of expertise. A successful candidate may also act as curator of the YSU Herbarium. Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching, scholarship, responsiveness to student needs, effective communication skills, and professional development. Demonstrated experience directing student research projects and a well-articulated plan for future undergraduate and M.S. graduate research is highly desirable.
The ideal candidate will help to fulfill the departments obligation for continued excellence in the preparation of students for careers in the biological sciences. The ability to develop collaborative research efforts within the department, across campus, at local agencies or other universities is desirable.
