FIRE ALARM/SPRINKLER TECHNICIAN 2

Job Description:

Under general direction of a lead worker or supervision by departmental administrator performs highly skilled installation and service of safety systems and related devices. Provides work direction, training & mentoring of lower-level safety systems technicians and/or other trades workers performing craft duties. Established pattern of good work habits and performance with good interpersonal skills.

Adheres to all OSHA and/or Ohio University required safety guidelines.

Maintains, installs, tests and repairs fire alarm systems.

Provides work direction, training/mentoring of lower level safety systems technicians, and/or trades, workers in fire systems installation, repair and maintenance.

Installs, maintains, tests and repairs sprinkler systems.

Installs, tests and repairs fire extinguishers.

Completes necessary documentation. Uses computerized maintenance management systems ( CMMS ).

Provides panel training to other staff. May input asset data and other information on computerized work order system.

Installs, maintains, tests and repairs fire pumps.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

State of Ohio Fire Alarm License with endorsements required.

State of Ohio Portable Fire Extinguishers License with endorsements required.

State of Ohio Sprinkler Systems License with endorsements required.

Journey-level working knowledge of fire systems or related technology including skill in installation and service of fire systems and components.

Read & write common vocabulary in sentence structure.

Add, subtract, multiply & divide whole numbers, calculate fractions, decimals & percentages.

Ability to apply principles to solve practical problems.

Ability to carry out instructions in written, oral, schematic and pictorial, form.

Work independently or with others.

Demonstrated willingness to work with diverse populations.

Demonstrate dexterity and skill in use of craft-associated hand &/or power tools & equipment.

Ability to interpret advanced code, review blueprints, reset fire panels.

Knowledge of all applicable OSHA and/or Ohio University safety guidelines and procedures.

Work at heights.

Lift up to 50 lbs.

48 months skilled experience in fire safety system field, or equivalent; and successful completion of written and/or practical test may be required.

Valid driver’s license

May be exposed to dirt, grease, odors, cramped conditions, extreme hot or cold temperatures, heights, and electrical hazards, may be exposed to dangerous machinery, confined spaces.

An established pattern of good work habits and performance with good interpersonal skills.

Must be obtained within 120 days after employment.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Knowledge of employee mentoring, training, development and inventory control.
