The main purpose and function of the Heavy Equipment Operator is to operate heavy equipment including scrapers, dozers, excavators, loaders, farm tractors, rock trucks, motor graders, etc.

Specific responsibilities may include:

Operating heavy equipment in stripping topsoil, overburden, ore, and waste.

Segregate and recover product, read stakes, and maintain slopes and drainages as indicated.

Operate feed hoppers and front-end loader in an efficient manner, may include loading trucks.

Prevent product non-conformity by ensuring proper blending and ore segregation.

Fill trucks when necessary.

Includes sorting, drying, and stockpiling product, and reclamation.

Maintain crude ore stockpile areas and pad construction.

Maintain a safe, clean, environmentally sound work area.

Pass down instructions, blend changes, hazards to next operator or supervisor at end of shift.

Complete Pre/Post shift inspections, log loads, fuel equipment and road building and maintenance.

Responsible for reporting safety, quality, environmental, and equipment concerns to supervisor.

Work under close supervision.

Give appropriate consideration to safety, quality, and environmental concerns.

Support and participate in the organization’s Continual Improvement Program to conform to API Specification Q1, 9th Edition requirements by complying with the Quality Policy and procedures and meeting QMS objectives.

Requirements:

Education and training:

High School diploma or equivalent required.

Experience:

Six (6) months to one (1) year of General Plant experience preferred.

Experience working in an API Specification Q1, 9th Edition environment a plus.

Knowledge and Skills:

Heavy Equipment Operation

General mechanical knowledge of heavy equipment.

Record keeping.

Basic math.

Peer-to-peer and interpersonal communication skills.

Rudimentary knowledge of geology, pad design, overburden characteristics and swell factors.

Physical and Safety Requirements:

Frequently work alone.

Subject to dust and noise.

Ability to function under extreme weather conditions and focus for long periods of time under shift work conditions.

Frequently work around machinery and mobile equipment.

Frequent climbing of ladders on and off loader.

Sitting, bending, standing, walking, 8-10 hours per day.

Frequently lifts up to 50 lbs. and occasionally up to 100 lbs.

Must comply with any safety or PPE requirements.
