Position Overview:

The Space Dynamics Laboratory (SDL) is seeking a skilled Painter with expertise in applying thermal control coatings to sensitive flight hardware. The primary responsibility of this role will be to perform meticulous surface preparation, masking, and paint application to meet the stringent requirements of aerospace standards. Additionally, the ideal candidate will provide secondary support for various technical tasks, such as assembly and equipment maintenance, as needed.

Key Responsibilities:
Primary Painting Duties:
Applies sensitive thermal control coatings to flight hardware with a high degree of precision and attention to detail
Performs meticulous surface preparation, masking, and other preparatory tasks to ensure optimal paint application and finish
Maintains painting equipment, tools, and supplies, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards
Documents and records paint applications, processes, and inspections in accordance with established procedures
Secondary Technical Support Duties:
Assists in routine technical support functions, such as setup, operation, maintenance, modification, circuit testing, calibration, and troubleshooting of mechanical, electronic, or optical systems
Supports assembly and building of prototype, ground, and flight hardware, including interconnecting cabling and wiring
Reads and interprets technical schematics, drawings, and diagrams as needed
Collaborates with other personnel and departments to provide technical support
Required Skills and Qualifications:
High School Diploma
Proven experience in painting, with extra consideration for the application of thermal control coatings
Ability to perform meticulous surface preparation and masking
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
Basic knowledge of technical support functions, such as assembly and troubleshooting
Ability to read and interpret technical schematics, drawings, and diagrams
Physical capability to perform activities involving substantial use of arms, legs, and the full body, including climbing, lifting (approximately 50 lbs.), balancing, walking, and handling materials
Must be able to spend extended periods standing
Ability to work effectively both individually and within a team environment
Effective written and verbal communication skills
Must be a USU citizen, lawful permanent resident of the US, or other US person
